Stellantis e-Routes app brings advanced EV route-planning to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Electric cars from Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Fiat can now connect to the e-Routes app, making route planning easier
- New e-Routes app available for all electric Stellantis group cars
- Includes EVs from Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Fiat
- Connects to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Stellantis has announced plans to expand the availability of its e-Routes app, a tool to help electric car drivers plan their routes more effectively. By using real-time location and battery data from the car, e-Routes can search and plan for charging stops along your route, removing some of the stress from taking an EV on a long journey.
Initially available for electric Citroen models, soon to be followed by EVs from Peugeot, Vauxhall and DS, the service has been expanded to include nearly all electric cars from Stellantis. That means drivers of the new Alfa Romeo Junior, Jeep Avenger, and EVs from Fiat can connect to e-Routes. Stellantis hopes that the roll-out of its app to a wider range of EVs will help to alleviate the ‘range anxiety’ that deters many car buyers from switching to electric.
What does e-Routes do and who can use it?
e-Routes is essentially a navigation app for Stellantis EV drivers with a few clever features. Much like an ordinary navigation app like Google Maps or Apple Maps, you can input a destination to e-Routes and it will plan the best route, but it will also take into account your vehicle’s range and any necessary charging stops along the way. That could be a really handy feature for some – especially those who like to take their EV on longer trips.
e-Routes pulls all sorts of information from your car to help it calculate the ideal route, including current battery charge level, remaining range and air temperature – Stellantis goes as far as to claim its routing algorithm is the “benchmark on the market” for such systems.
Like Google Maps and Apple Maps, e-Routes is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so once you’ve connected your phone to your car, e-Routes will appear on your infotainment display and can be controlled via the car’s touchscreen.
e-Routes is exclusive to electric cars from Stellantis. In the UK, that includes models from Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, Abarth, Vauxhall, Alfa Romeo and Jeep.
How much does e-Routes cost?
For new vehicle purchases, e-Routes is included in the optional Connect Plus pack. For those who ordered a compatible car before 3rd July 2023, e-Routes can be purchased as a standalone service, costing £4 a month or £40 a year.
