Citroen e-C4 gains cheaper trim levels for 2022
New ‘Sense’ trim level replaces ‘Sense Plus’ and is nearly £5,000 cheaper
- Two trim levels qualify for plug-in car grant
- e-C4 now goes further on a charge
- Priced from £28,495
The Citroen e-C4 now starts from a much lower price, because Citroen has adjusted its pricing and introduced a new entry-level trim level. New Sense and Shine Edition trims join the range, and are available to buy now.
The Sense trim replaces Sense Plus, and is now eligible for the plug-in car grant. Sense Plus versions started at £33,395, so missed out on the new maximum limit of £32,000, but the new Sense trim costs £29,995, and after the grant is applied, you’ll pay £28,495. That means the e-C4 is now cheaper than the Volkswagen ID.3 and the value-focused MG ZS EV, and it’s only £235 more than the smaller Peugeot e-208, with which it shares its powertrain.

Sense trim packs plenty of equipment, too. LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, parking sensors and keyless entry/start are all fitted. You also get dual-zone climate control and a 10-inch touchscreen with digital radio, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto connectivity.
Above that is the new Shine Edition trim. For £2,000 more, it has a heated steering wheel, sat-nav, a reversing camera and an adjustable boot floor. Shine Edition also adds extra safety equipment over the outgoing Shine trim, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and a head-up display.
Citroen says the top-spec Shine Plus trim is the current best-seller, despite no longer being eligible for the plug-in car grant. Go for this version and extra equipment such as wireless phone charging and heated leather-effect seats comes in.
Cars produced since October 2021 have an updated powertrain that features advancements to make it more efficient. A new heat pump and low-rolling-resistance tyres are among the changes, which eke out an extra 17 miles of range on a full charge.
