Buyers of high-performance electric saloon cars have another option to consider as of today – the Lotus Emeya. The British brand has announced that its all-new ‘hyper-GT’ is now on sale in the UK, costing from £94,950.

The Emeya marks Lotus’s third entry into the electric car market, reflecting the manufacturer’s drastic evolution over the past few years. Long gone are the fibreglass-bodied lightweight sports cars of the past, replaced by a new generation of high-performance electric luxury vehicles. The Emeya follows the ultra-exclusive Evija supercar and the – slightly – more down-to-earth Eletre electric SUV, the latter having recently gone on sale in the UK.

What do I need to know about the Lotus Emeya?

With four doors, five seats (a four-seat layout is optional) and a sleek, sloping roof line, the Lotus Emeya follows the trend set by other electric GT cars such as the Porsche Taycan and the Audi E-Tron GT. Lotus claims that it will provide drivers with a blend of luxury, performance and comfort, without sacrificing the driving experience that the British brand is famed for.

There are three different Emeya variants to choose from – the regular Emeya, the S and the R – all powered by a 102kWh battery. Performance is suitably strong across all models, but the headline 905bhp power figure is reserved for the top-of-the-range Emeya R, costing £129,950. The other two models aren’t exactly slow, however, with 603bhp and a 0-62mph time of just 4.2 seconds.

There’s plenty of chassis technology to help the Emeya handle well through the bends, too. An active-aerodynamic system that adjusts the front bumper and rear spoiler can reduce drag or increase downforce when needed, while four-wheel drive, adjustable air suspension and rear-wheel steering should all work to keep the Emeya’s 2.5 tonne kerb weight in check.

Unlike Lotus sports cars of the past, you won’t find bucket seats or a manual gear level inside the Emeya’s cabin. Instead, the focus on luxury is clear, with much of its design carried over from the Eletre SUV – you’ll spot the same dashboard, 15.1-inch infotainment screen and ambient lighting. Power-opening doors and a panoramic sunroof that can transition from clear to opaque bolster the luxurious kit-list.

How much does the Lotus Emeya cost and when can I order one?

Prices start at £94,950 for the entry-level Emeya, rising to £107,450 for the S variant. For the fastest Emeya R, you’ll need to hand over £129,950. All are available to order now in the UK, with the first deliveries scheduled for late summer this year.
