Hot car deal: funky GWM Ora 03 EV for £170 a month

The all-electric GWM Ora 03 (previously known as the Ora Funky Cat) is the Chinese manufacturer’s debut model in the UK. It’s a five-door, five-seat small EV that is going after the likes of the BYD Dolphin, MG4, and even the MINI Electric – trading on its cute, retro style, along with plenty of interior space for passengers and lots of reassuring safety kit as standard. 

Sprightly enough to work as a great urban runabout, the Ora 03 offers a single-pedal driving mode which makes driving in stop-start traffic a little easier, while buyers will appreciate its smart interior and good levels of kit.

What’s so good about this GWM Ora 03 deal? 

This deal from Central Vehicle Leasing lets you cover up to 5,000 miles a year with an initial payment of £2,400.00, then monthly payments of £170.39 over three years. There’s some flexibility if you need to specify an increase to the agreed mileage; upping the arrangement to 8,000 miles per year means you’ll pay £193.09 per month, while moving to 10,000 miles sees this figure climb to £208.87.

As mentioned above, standard equipment is a real highlight and includes 18-inch alloys, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera view, rear parking sensors, a keyless entry and start function, electrically-adjustable front seats, wireless phone charging and two 10.25-inch screens – one for the infotainment system and the other displaying information to the driver.

The model on offer in this particular deal is the 48kWh Pure+, which features a 169bhp electric motor driving the front wheels. 0-62mph is covered in 8.3 seconds, while GWM claims you should see a range of up to 193 miles on a mixture of roads. Although this may be achievable in warmer weather conditions, we actually tested the car ourselves in winter, when temperatures often fell below zero. The result was an overall range of around 134 miles, which is certainly something to bear in mind if you plan on taking longer trips in the GWM Ora 03. 

What’s so good about the GWM Ora 03?

The GWM Ora 03  is a more compelling small EV than you might think. Yes, it does have its flaws, particularly with overall efficiency and usable boot space, but a generally well-made interior, great standard kit and a top five-star Euro NCAP safety rating mean it’s definitely one to consider at this price.

Anything else I need to know about this deal?

This is a lease deal, often referred to as Personal Contract Hire (PCH), so there’s no option to buy the car at the end of the contract. You are effectively renting the car for the three-year term, but the deal is very flexible so you can adjust the term length, mileage limit and initial payment size to suit, but only at the outset. Once the deal is over, you just hand the keys back and start looking for your next car.
