MPG, running costs & CO2 Rating

Running costs are everything in the executive-car class these days. With company cars making up many of Jaguar’s yearly sales, drivers are looking to minimise their Benefit-in-Kind tax bill, so manufacturers are competing fiercely to get their contenders' CO2 emissions as low as possible. Jaguar has done an impressive job with the XF – the most efficient version emits a reasonable 130g/km. However, it's a shame there's no plug-in hybrid option, which would offer much lower CO2 emissions and tax costs.

Jaguar XF MPG & CO2

The entry-level Jaguar XF is the 201bhp 2.0-litre diesel D200 with rear-wheel drive, which emits between 130 to 146g/km of CO2 depending on specification, with claimed fuel economy of up to 56.8mpg. You could previously also specify four-wheel drive with this engine but CO2 emissions rose to 143-157g/km and the maximum fuel economy figure was up to 51.8mpg – at the time of writing four-wheel drive cannot be specified on the XF.

For those who want a petrol-powered XF, there’s a choice of two turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engines to choose from. The P250 version produces CO2 emissions of 182-186g/km, placing it in the top BiK band, with fuel economy of up to 35.4mpg. The more powerful P300 petrol engine produces 296bhp with a best fuel economy figure of 32.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 197g/km.

After the first year's CO2-based road tax (generally included in the on-the-road price), Jaguar XFs either cost the standard rate to tax each year, or the slightly discounted rate if you choose a mild-hybrid. Those with a list price (including options) of more than £40,000 are liable for a large additional surcharge a year in years two to six, bringing the annual bill to more than £500 during that period.

Insurance groups

The least expensive Jaguar XF (the D200-powered R-Dynamic S) falls into insurance group 34, while the D200 R-Dynamic HSE is in group 36. The P250 petrol range starts in group 36, while the range-topping P300 R-Dynamic HSE is in group 39.

Warranty

All new Jaguar XFs sold in the UK come with three years of unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty cover. After three years, this can be extended for an extra 12 months at a time, for an additional cost.

Servicing

A 'Jaguar Approved Service' plan is offered with the XF. This covers maintenance for five years/50,000 miles or five years/75,000 miles. There's also a standard-mileage plan for petrol-engined cars. Covering a 2.0-litre diesel for five years/50,000 miles costs just over £500 and covers the cost of AdBlue refills as well as servicing.
