Volkswagen Golf Estate 2013 price announced
The new Volkswagen Golf Estate will cost from £17,915, available from 2 July
The new Volkswagen Golf Estate price has been announced, with the car costing from £17,915 when it goes on 2 July.
That means the new more practical shape will cost £765 more than the equivalent hatchback model. The boot in the Golf Estate is 605 litres, which compares with 380 litres of boot space in the Golf hatchback.
With the rear seats folded flat, the cargo space increases to 1,620 litres, which is 125 litres more than the old Golf Estate. There is also a multi-level floor, which allows owners to store items out of sight. Roof bars come as standard, too, making it more practical than ever.
The new Golf Estate comes with a large range of petrol and diesel engines, including two 1.2-litre and two 1.4-litre petrol engines engines. All cars get a six-speed manual or optional seven-speed automatic gearboxes apart from the base model, which gets a standard five-speed gearbox.
Three diesel engines are available: a 1.6-litre TDI with the five-speed manual gearbox, a more powerful 1.6-litre TDI with either a five-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic and a 2.0-litre TDI with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed auto gearbox.
All engines include fuel-saving stop-start technology and can manage over 50mpg. The most efficient 1.6-litre diesel engine with BlueMotion technology fitted can do 85.6mpg and 87g/km emissions – though this version is not on sale from launch, but will arrive in showrooms towards the end of the year.
The Volkswagen Golf Estate 2013 comes in three specifications – S, SE and GT – and standard equipment includes Bluetooth for your mobile phone, a digital radio, iPod connectivity and a 5.8-inch touchscreen. The more expensive SE models get 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic lights, automatic windscreen wipers and extra safety technology like a system that automatically brakes if it senses a collision.
Top of the line GT models, which cost from £23,935, get 17-inch alloy wheels, tinted windows, sat-nav, parking sensors and sportier suspension.
