New Ford Ka concept unveiled
The latest Ford Ka has been revealed, but it might not go on sale in the UK
Pictures of the 2014 Ford Ka have been officially unveiled and sales of the car are set to get underway in Brazil next year, with a strong possibility that it will also be available in the UK at a later date.
Along with the current Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus and Ford Kuga SUV, the new Ford Ka is part of the One Ford plan. This means the car will be sold largely unchanged across the globe – in an effort to reduce costs and improve reliability. As a result, Ford will hope to build on its 23 place finish in the 2013 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey – which saw it fall behind both Skoda and Toyota, as well as Renault, Volkswagen and Mazda.
The original Ford Ka launched in 1996 and was a runaway success for Ford. The current model hasn’t done quite so well, but feels more grown up, thanks to a quieter, better-built interior and more equipment. Ford hopes the new Ka will build on this, and rocket back to the top of the sales chart.
Details are scarce at the moment, but what’s obvious from the pictures is that the new Ka will be the first to feature five-doors, which should make it the perfect car for young families. While no pictures of the car’s interior have been released, Ford tells us that the new Ka will boast an impressive amount of equipment including air-conditioning and iPod compatibility.
Ford has also promised the new Ka will offer ‘class leading economy’ as well as low emissions figures, too. A model with sub-100g/km emissions is a strong possibility, which would qualify for free road tax.
What’s also been confirmed is that – despite its small dimensions – the new Ka will have room for five passengers, even if space on the back seats for full-size adults will be tight. The new model is also likely to improve on the current car’s four-star Euro NCAP rating thanks to improved safety credentials.
The previous two Ford Ka models have been among the most fun to drive in their class and we would expect the same to be true of the new car.
Ford is yet to confirm whether the new Ka will go on sale in the UK, and as a result no word on pricing has been announced. However, we don’t expect to see much change from the current car, which costs from £8,795 to £11,295.
