Jeep Renegade 2015 price, specs & release date

Jeep revealed the Jeep Renegade at the Geneva Motor Show and released more information on specs, with release date and price to be confirmed. We do know that the car is set to rival the popular Nissan Juke - Jeep will hope that a combination of chunky looks and superior off-road ability will appeal to crossover buyers looking for something a little more traditional then the Juke.

Although there has been no official word on release date or price, the Jeep Renegade is expected to cost around £15,000 and go on sale in 2015.

The Renegade is based on the Fiat 500X (Fiat owns Jeep), but the Renegade gets lots of styling cues to give it a distinct Jeep character. They include its traditional chunky four-wheel drive looks, squared-off wheelarches, large wing mirrors, and the company’s trademark grille.

The looks are not the only traditional Jeep quality that the Renegade boasts – the company tells us it will also be an accomplished off-roader. The Renegade can be specced in Trailhawk trim, which means it gets extra equipment that should make it adept at scaling and descending steep gradients. If economy is more of a priority, the Renegade will also be available in, more frugal, two-wheel drive form.

The car also uses Fiat engines, which means it gets a 138bhp petrol engine and a choice of three diesels - a 1.6-litre 116bhp engine or a 2.0-litre engine with either 136bhp or 165bhp.

The Jeep’s interior gets soft-touch plastics and a design that, we're told, takes cues from mud splatter. Similarities with Fiat models are there to see, including the centrally-mounted touchsceen and the three controls on the centre of the dashboard. The Jeep should be reasonably practical for a car of its size, with a 350-litre boot and rear seats that fold 40:20:40. Safety features fitted to the Renegade include blind-spot warning and front-collision warning.
