New Volkswagen Golf Match launched
VW Golf Match replaces the SE model and gets more equipment at no extra cost
Volkswagen has replaced the Volkswagen Golf SE with the new Volkswagen Golf Match trim, which starts from £19,680 and adds a range of extra equipment.
Costing the same as the defunct SE, the VW Golf Match adds kit such as front and rear parking sensors, front fog lights, and electric folding door mirrors with puddle lights and reverse-activated dipping for a better view of the kerb. A unique set of 16-inch alloy wheels distinguish the Match from the rest of the range.
As with all other Golfs, the Match comes fitted with seven airbags, an automatic post-collision braking system, and ISOFIX mounts for two child seats. Inside, there’s a 5.8-inch colour touchscreen, DAB radio, CD player, as well as a Bluetooth phone connection and audio streaming. Also standard is air-conditioning, plus a stop-start system that turns the engine off when the car is at a standstill to save fuel.
Opting for the Match over the entry-level Golf S (priced from £16,775) adds useful extras such as Adaptive Cruise Control, which matches the speed of the car in front, and autonomous emergency braking. The car is also fitted with a Driver Alert System that warns the driver when it senses drowsiness, plus automatic wipers and headlights.
The Volkswagen Golf Match range starts with the basic 118bhp 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine, which is capable of up to 56.5mpg. The 104bhp 1.6-litre diesel offers better economy (up to 74.3mpg), while the 148bhp 2.0-litre TDI offers a mix of performance and frugality, and is capable of up to 68.9mpg. Buyers can choose to specify either a manual or DSG automatic gearbox across the range.
On sale now, the first new cars are expected to reach their owners in September. For pricing across the VW Golf Match range see the table below or for a video review of the Volkswagen Golf, visit the Carbuyer Volkswagen reviews page.
