Range Rover updates announced

The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will receive some minor updates to keep the cars sharp going into 2015. Both models get new infotainment systems, cosmetic revisions, and an updated diesel engine.

From 16 July, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will come fitted with Land Rover’s InControl infotainment system. InControl brings a raft of new functions including in-car Wi-Fi for up to eight devices and the ability to display the screen of your smartphone on the infotainment system. It can also make SOS calls after an accident and track the vehicle if it is stolen.

Cosmetic updates include two new colours – Aruba Silver and Kaijoura Stone – although only the former will be available with the Sport. Both cars get a new 19-inch alloy wheel design with a Satin Dark Grey finish, while the long-wheelbase Range Rover gets optional 22-inch alloy wheels.

All Range Rovers can now be fitted with a fixed panoramic roof that can be chosen instead of the opening glass roof on the current models. Also new are wing-mirror mounted puddle lights that project an image of the car onto the kerb, and an Intelligent Cargo Mode. It rolls the front seats forward automatically when the rear seats are folded down to maximise load space.

From August, the long-wheelbase Range Rover will be available in Autobiography Black trim. It gets unique alloy wheels (in 21 and 22-inch forms), LED rear lights, redesigned seats, and switchable mood lighting. Opting for the executive package adds fully adjustable seats, a redesigned extended centre console, electrically deployed leather tables, USB sockets, extra storage and bespoke lighting.

Rounding off the changes is a revised version of Land Rover’s 4.4-litre V8 diesel engine that will be available on both the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport. It is said to increase acceleration by up to 6.5%, while keeping the old engine’s economy of 32.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 229g/km.
