New Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake unveiled at Geneva

The new CLA estate breaks cover at Geneva with improved boot space and tech

The new Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. It joins the recently revealed saloon in the CLA range and will rival the Volkswagen Golf Estate, Mercedes C-Class Estate and the upcoming BMW 3 Series Touring. The new CLA Shooting Brake will arrive in the UK in the last quarter of 2019, with pricing to be confirmed.

The new model carries forward a similar design to the outgoing CLA but features a slight increase in size; it’s 48mm longer and 53mm wider. It also features a restyled front with a new shaped grille, headlights and front bumper, restyled wing mirrors, new LED tail lights and a redesigned rear bumper.

Thanks to a 30mm increase in wheelbase, the new CLA Shooting Brake is bigger on the inside, with increased shoulder, head and elbow room for passengers. The boot is also larger, with 505 litres of load space and a wider boot opening measuring 87cm, up from 495 litres and 64cm respectively in the outgoing model.

The inside gets a much-needed tech update; the dashboard features Mercedes’ latest MBUX infotainment system with dual screens of varying sizes, including an optional digital dash, voice command for the navigation and a heads up display, depending on the trim and options chosen.

Mercedes has yet to confirm the full engine lineup for the CLA, only confirming that the range-topping model at launch will be the 221bhp CLA 250. Further variants are expected to be announced in the coming months, including a 1.5-litre diesel and 1.6-litre petrol, together with details of the automatic and manual gearbox choices.
