- • R-Dynamic Black trim includes stealthy bodykit and lots of equipment
- • The special edition adds £4,885 worth of options for £1,125
- • On sale now, with prices starting at £56,995
The Range Rover Velar now has a new limited-edition trim called R-Dynamic Black. The production run will be limited to 500 examples, all bound for the UK market, and the car will come with extra kit and a black exterior styling pack. It’s available to order now, with first deliveries starting in early 2020.
The new model is based on the R-Dynamic SE, which means it gets the sporty-looking R-Dynamic bodykit and plenty of equipment. SE includes 20-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights (giving full-beam power without dazzling oncoming drivers), heated half-leather front seats, parking assistance, a Meridian sound system and a digital instrument cluster.
The slowest depreciating car on sale
On top of that, the R-Dynamic Black offers a fixed panoramic glass roof, a heated steering wheel, privacy glass and Land Rover’s Adaptive Dynamics pack. With adaptive dampers and upgraded software, it scans the road surface ahead to optimise the suspension settings. It sits on 21-inch wheels, painted in gloss black, and gets a black styling pack that includes the air vent surrounds, grille, bonnet vents, side strakes and Land Rover lettering.
Two metallic paint colours are available, with Eiger Grey offered alongside Santorini Black if you want more of a contrast. Inside, the leather upholstery and the headliner are both black too.
The entry-level D180 diesel engine is the only engine available. It’s a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 178bhp and comes with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive as standard. Accelerating from 0-62mph takes 8.9 seconds, the car’s top speed is 120mph and up to 42mpg is possible. It’s a shame that the R-Dynamic Black isn’t available with the more powerful 237bhp D240 engine, which knocks the 0-62mph time down to 7.4 seconds while still returning 41.1mpg.
Prices start at £56,995, which represents a jump of £1,125 over the R-Dynamic SE with the D180 engine. Considering the extra equipment you get, the R-Dynamic Black edition represents great value; if you were to add all the same options (worth £4,885) onto the R-Dynamic SE, it’d cost you £60,755. The exclusivity of the car should help fend off some of the normal depreciation too.
