Limited-edition Ford Ranger Thunder pickup truck revealed
New Thunder model based on top-spec Ford Ranger Wildtrak and is on sale now
- Exclusive styling upgrades
- Limited to 1,400 examples in the UK
- Prices start at £32,965 (exc. VAT)
The Ford Ranger Thunder is the latest model to join the growing Ranger range. It’s a limited-edition model based on the range-topping Wildtrak specification, and gets a host of eye-catching styling tweaks. You can order one now, with first deliveries scheduled for late summer.
Top-spec pickup trucks are big business so the Thunder also has beefed-up rivals including the Toyota Hilux Invincible, Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian and the recently revealed Isuzu D-Max XTR Colour Edition.
Only 1,400 of the Ford Ranger Thunder are coming to the UK. Each one comes in ‘Sea Grey’ metallic paint with a set of striking red accents, which include the grille inserts, roll hoop and Thunder badges. The pickup’s skid plates, door handles and fog light surrounds are all painted black, as are the new 18-inch alloy wheels. There are also LED headlights and tinted lamp clusters.
It’s a similar story inside, thanks to seats upholstered in black leather with ‘Thunder’ stitched in red embroidery. Red stitching is used throughout the cabin, and the illuminated sill plates are the same colour. As the Thunder is based on the Wildtrak, standard equipment includes sat nav, a reversing camera, privacy glass and dual-zone air conditioning. The powder-coated roll-top cover in these photos can be added for extra cost.
The Ranger Thunder uses Ford’s new 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine and a 10-speed automatic gearbox with four-wheel drive. It has 210bhp and is said to return up to 31mpg, which is about on par with rivals. CO2 emissions stand at a hefty 239g/km but all commercial pickups are subject to a flat rate of tax.
What does it mean for buyers?
It’s worthwhile considering a Ford Ranger Thunder if you’re looking at the Ranger Wildtrak, as the Thunder’s starting price of £32,965 is around £400 less than a Wildtrak specced with the same powertrain and paint colour - plus you get the extra features and exclusivity of the limited-run model.
