EV révolution! Quarter of all new Peugeot models sold in UK are electric
New figures suggest that Peugeot’s EV lineup is proving popular with British buyers
Peugeot’s drive towards electrification appears to be paying off, as the French brand has reported that nearly a quarter of all new cars sold in the UK in October were fully electric.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reported that 7,421 new Peugeots were registered in October 2024. Out of that figure, 24.8% were accounted for by fully-electric vehicles according to Peugeot – a new high for the brand. EV sales in the UK for October stood at 20.7% of total new car sales, so Peugeot appears to be comfortably ahead of that figure at this moment in time.
Peugeot suggests that its success is largely due to the introduction of the new Peugeot E-3008, a fully electric mid-size SUV that rivals the Audi Q4 e-tron and Renault Scenic. Alongside the E-3008, Peugeot offers EVs of all shapes and sizes, adding up to the “widest all-electric lineup of any mainstream European manufacturer”.
The newly-introduced Peugeot E-5008 will no doubt have helped EV sales, too, along with the recent price cuts for the E-2008 SUV and the E-208 hatchback. Then there’s Peugeot’s eight-year ‘Allure Care’ warranty, designed to encourage buyers to switch to an EV.
The impressive EV sales aren’t just exclusive to Peugeot. The UK’s electric car market continues to grow as a whole, with a 24.5% increase over October 2023 reported this month by the SMMT. Petrol cars still remain the most popular with new car buyers in the UK, but the tide is continuing to slowly shift in favour of EVs and hybrid vehicles.
That said, the petrol-powered Peugeot 208 was the brand’s best-selling car in October 2024, with 2,267 examples finding homes – over 400 more than the brand’s total EV sales for the month.
