New Volkswagen Golf GTI pictures revealed
Pictures and details of the new Volkswagen Golf GTI have been released ahead of its appearance at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
The all-new Volkswagen Golf GTI will be available with two power options for the first time – a 217bhp 2.0-litre TSI engine or the new Performance Package, which increases bhp to 227. The previous model, based on the Mk6 Golf only offered 207bhp and weighed 42kg more than its replacement.
The Mk7 Golf GTI accelerates from 0-62mpg in 6.5 seconds, or 6.4 with the Performance Package, matching the claimed speed of the Ford Focus ST. With the standard six-speed manual gearbox, the GTI is expected to return 47mpg in fuel economy, while emitting 139g/km of CO2, compared to the 39.2mpg and 169g/km of the Focus ST. Economy reduces to 44.1mpg if paired with the six-speed DSG gearbox.
The exterior gets a rear spoiler, twin chrome exhaust pipes and 17-inch alloy wheels, along with an aggressive bodykit. Inside, the GTI’s famous tartan pattern is present on the standard sports seats. A seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and front and rear parking sensors all come as standard, as well as red ambient interior lighting.
Volkswagen has suggested that the new GTI will be priced at a similar level as the outgoing car, starting at £25,650, with order books opening in late March for deliveries to begin in June.
