New Tesla Model 3 Performance: rapid 454bhp EV costs £60k

The facelifted Tesla Model 3 Performance looks to offer some serious bang for your buck

  • Fastest version of the Tesla Model 3
  • Over 454bhp on offer
  • Prices start from £59,990

The ubiquitous electric saloon car has just become even faster – this is the new Tesla Model 3 Performance, and it's the most powerful variant yet.

The Model 3 was facelifted towards the end of 2023, but the old car’s Performance version was notably absent. Six months later, it’s finally returned, but it will have to face new competition – such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N – that simply didn’t exist when the original Model 3 Performance went on sale in 2018. Prices start at £59,990, and buyers in the UK can place an order now.

What do I need to know about the Tesla Model 3 Performance?

There’s more to the Model 3 Performance than just a more powerful motor setup, although we’ll touch on that shortly. Tesla has been keen to point out the various chassis and suspension upgrades to the Performance model that make it the “most dynamic Model 3 variant yet”.

The big talking point is the new adaptive suspension system. The onboard computer can adjust the stiffness of the suspension in different driving scenarios to optimise either handling or comfort, a feature that Tesla claims “allows for the ultimate handling performance without giving up everyday usability”.

Along with the new tech, the Model 3 Performance gets a stiffened chassis and a host of uprated suspension components – including springs, bushings and stabiliser bars – in order to keep body movements in check when accelerating, braking and cornering. There are new 20-inch forged alloy wheels with performance tyres, while red brake callipers house a set of new high-performance brake pads.

Don’t think that Tesla has forgotten about straight-line speed – the Model 3 Performance will outpace pretty much anything away from a set of traffic lights. Its new dual motor ‘performance drive unit’ delivers over 454bhp to all four wheels, enabling a claimed 0-60mph time of 2.9 seconds. Official range stands at 328 miles, 10 miles more than the base car.

Inside, there’s a pair of new heated and ventilated sports seats to help keep you supported through the corners. The giant central infotainment screen remains, although a new Track Mode allows you to adjust suspension and regenerative braking through the UI. Outside, the Model 3 Performance gets a set of more aggressive-looking bumpers with cooling ducts, along with a neat rear diffuser and carbon fibre lip spoiler.

How much does the Tesla Model 3 Performance cost and when can I buy one?

Tesla has announced a starting price of £59,990 for the Model 3 Performance, a whole £20,000 more than the standard rear-wheel drive model. It’s available to order now in the UK and the first customers can expect delivery within the next few months.
