UK prices for Toyota Corolla Trek start at £29,225
Petrol Toyota Corolla no longer available but two special editions join the range
- Trek adds ruggedness to Corolla range
- Two hybrid engines available
- Striking GR Sport also on sale
The Toyota Corolla Trek has joined the growing Corolla range with a starting price of £29,225. It’s a collaboration between Toyota and bike company Trek, and is a rugged-looking estate along the lines of the Ford Focus Active, Volkswagen Golf Alltrack and Skoda Octavia Scout.
Setting it apart from other Toyota Corolla Touring Sports estate models is a 20mm higher ground clearance. Trek editions also get plastic body cladding, exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels and a honeycomb grille. Inside, there’s Trek-specific upholstery and decorative wood trim pieces, while equipment includes an automated tailgate, LED headlights, driver assistance tech and an eight-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
• Best hybrids you can buy this year
Like the rest of the Corolla range, you’ve a choice of two hybrid powertrains. A 120bhp 1.8-litre, shared with the Toyota Prius, is the cheaper engine, while the more powerful 177bhp 2.0-litre hybrid costs from £30,950. Toyota claims up to 62.7mpg for the former - very impressive considering many diesels struggle to manage this figure - and 56.4mpg for the 2.0-litre. The 2.0-litre engine is easy to recommend, as its 8.1-second 0-62mph-time is a whole three seconds quicker than the less expensive engine. Just like the Toyota C-HR, which also comes with these engine choices, a CVT automatic gearbox is the only option.
The entire Corolla range is now hybrid-only, as the cheaper 1.2-litre petrol engine has been withdrawn. Prices start from £24,185 for the Corolla hatchback and the four-door Corolla saloon, and £25,455 for the Touring Sports estate.
The hatchback and estate is also available in GR Sport trim, which is the equivalent of the Ford Focus ST-Line and Volkswagen Golf R-Line. To set the GR Sport apart from the standard Corolla, Toyota has restyled the exterior with a new dark chrome front grille, side skirts and a rear diffuser, 18-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, and an exclusive ‘Dynamic Grey’ bi-tone paint finish. Toyota has revised the GR Sport’s interior, adding distinctive Gazoo Racing half leather sports seats (full-leather is an option), and black and red stitching throughout the interior.
