Porsche Macan GTS returns for 2020

The Porsche Macan range has been bolstered by a new GTS model, which is sportier than the entry models but sits below the flagship Turbo model. With 375bhp, the GTS is 20bhp more powerful than the previous version, and it’s faster from 0-62mph too. The GTS is available to order now, with prices starting at £58,816.

The Macan SUV is Porsche’s best-selling car, and the GTS gets a black styling pack to make it stand out. Its 20-inch alloy wheels, grille and front bumper inserts, exhaust pipes and rear diffuser are all finished in black, while the headlights and tail-lights are darkened over the standard Macan. Park the GTS next to a standard Macan and you’ll also notice it sits 15mm lower. The GTS also gets red brake calipers to add extra sporty looks.

Powering the Porsche Macan GTS is a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, which is similar to the one found in the Audi RS5. Here, it produces 375bhp and sprints from 0-62mph in a smidge under five seconds, or you can reduce this time to 4.7 seconds if you spec the optional Sport Chrono pack. The engine is mated to the PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox sending power to all four wheels.

A sports exhaust system is fitted as standard, and the Macan GTS can be made quieter or louder with the press of a button. Huge cast iron brakes are fitted, too, but buyers can upgrade these to tungsten carbide-coated discs or ceramic composite brakes. If other Porsches are anything to go by, these will be expensive options that are better suited to the racetrack rather than normal road driving. Other options include adaptive air suspension and the aforementioned Sport Chrono pack, which adds a stopwatch, a driving mode selector on the steering wheel, launch control and a Sport Plus driving mode.

Inside, Alcantara suede-like fabric is used on the seats, door panels and centre console to give the GTS a sporty, almost racecar-like feel. Sports seats are fitted, which provide support through fast corners. On top of the long standard equipment list, you can add luxurious features like a Bose surround-sound system, wireless phone charging, adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assistance from the options list.
