Polestar 2 range expands for 2021

The electric Polestar 2 is now available with front-wheel drive, a choice of two new battery sizes and a lower starting price

  • Three powertrains on offer with dual and single motors
  • Three optional equipment packs available
  • Prices range from £39,900 to £45,900

The Polestar 2 electric hatchback is now available with the choice of three battery and motor combinations, which has helped bring the starting price down to £39,900.

The new entry-level variant features a 64kWh battery and a single electric motor driving the front wheels - it produces 221bhp and 330Nm of torque. Polestar says this model can cover up to 274 miles on a single charge.

Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED lights and Polestar’s frameless mirrors. Inside, buyers get an 11-inch infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch driver display cluster and an eight-speaker audio system. Other notable standard features include front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

The new mid-range car, called the Long Range Single Motor, is powered by a slightly punchier 228bhp version of the same front-mounted electric motor and a larger 78kWh battery. This powertrain is claimed to offer a range of 335 miles between charges.

The range-topping Long Range Dual Motor, meanwhile, is priced from £45,900 and replaces the launch specification model as the flagship. It’s powered by the same 78kWh battery but uses two electric motors, which have a combined output of 402bhp and 660Nm of torque.

The Long Range Dual Motor costs £4,000 less than the original launch specification but this is because that model’s Plus and Pilot packs are now optional extras, rather than standard equipment.

The Plus Pack, which adds a 13-speaker Harman Karmon stereo system, a black ash dashboard trim and a full-length panoramic sunroof, costs £4,000 alone. It also includes electrically adjustable and heated front seats, and heated rear seats, steering wheel and wiper blades. Polestar is also offering an improved heat pump with this pack, which captures excess heat from the drivetrain and uses it to heat the cabin and reduce power demand for the climate control by up to 50%.

The Pilot Pack, meanwhile, is an additional £3,000 and includes enhanced safety and driver assistance features, such as Polestar’s Pixel LED headlights with LED front fog lights, cruise control, lane-keeping assist, 360-degree surround view camera, all-round parking sensors, and cross traffic alert.

Polestar’s Performance Pack, for an additional £5,000, remains available for the most expensive Long Range Dual motor model. It adds adjustable Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes, forged 20-inch alloy wheels and signature gold detailing inside and out.
