New Porsche GT3 RS races onto the market
The 518bhp 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a race car for the road
- Prices start at £178,500
- Produces 518bhp
- Active aerodynamics as standard
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is on sale now giving you a focused track car that you can also take on the road.
The latest generation features active aerodynamics and a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre petrol engine that produces 518bhp, propelling the rear-wheel-drive racer from 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds.
A top speed of 184mph is actually lower than the regular Porsche GT3, but thanks to its increased downforce the RS model should be significantly quicker on track.
Visual changes are the most obvious difference between the stripped out GT3 RS and the standard GT3. Aggressive spoilers mean this new GT3 RS creates double the downforce of the previous generation, which also had plenty of aero.
Finally, the use of active aerodynamics - similar to a Formula 1 car - means owners can see the rear spoiler move to improve stability under braking before lying flat to make the car more slippery on the straights.
Porsche have used a variety of lightweight materials, including carbon reinforced plastic (CFRP) on the new GT3 RS to reduce weight wherever possible, making the car even faster without needing to add power. A figure of 1,450kg is quoted for the GT3 RS making it 8kg lighter than a Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Order books are now open but car buyers should expect a long wait if they want to get their hands on one.
