New 2021 Toyota C-HR GR Sport starts from £31,395

2021 Toyota C-HR GR Sport model gets styling tweaks, along with mechanical upgrades

  • GR Sport trim adds sporty styling and unique paint scheme
  • Available with 1.8 and 2.0-litre petrol-hybrid powertrains
  • On sale now priced from £31,395

The 2021 Toyota C-HR GR Sport is now on sale, with prices starting from £31,395 for the entry-level 1.8-litre petrol version. Every GR Sport model gets several upgrades over the standard car, with different exterior and interior styling, plus revised steering and suspension.

Buyers can also opt for a more powerful version of Toyota’s smallest SUV with a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid powertrain, with prices starting from £33,015.

2021 Toyota C-HR GR Sport: design

Inspired by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing team, the C-HR GR Sport is the second model in the firm’s range to get the nameplate after the Corolla GR Sport. It features several cosmetic changes over the standard C-HR, with a black finish added to the headlight and fog light housings, the centre of the front bumper, and the front badge.

The front grille is finished in dark chrome, with a larger front spoiler. At the sides, unique GR Sport alloy wheels feature, along with new black plastic mouldings on the doors. The rear of the car has black surrounds on the taillights and a restyled rear bumper.

Every C-HR GR Sport model comes in a bi-tone paint finish as standard, with a total of eight colours to choose from. It also gets one exclusive colour scheme, consisting of ‘Ash Grey’ bodywork and a contrasting black roof panel.

Interior, technology and standard equipment

Interior upgrades include a choice of Alcantara or fabric seats, with both featuring contrasting red and grey stitching. A smattering of ‘GR’ logos are also dotted around the interior, along with a leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear shift gaiter, both featuring red stitching.

Standard equipment includes LED headlights, folding mirrors, keyless entry and rear privacy glass. Toyota’s Touch 2 infotainment system is also fitted with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A premium JBL stereo system with nine-speakers makes the options list.

Engines, performance and economy

The C-HR GR Sport is available with the same 1.8 and 2.0-litre petrol-hybrid powertrains as the standard C-HR and a CVT automatic gearbox. The smaller engine produces 120bhp, with the more powerful version increasing power to 181bhp. Fuel economy figures have yet to be confirmed, but it’s expected the GR Sport model will offer similar efficiency to the regular C-HR of around 54-58mpg.

Toyota claims the C-HR GR Sport is sharper to drive but still offers a decent level of comfort thanks to an array of chassis upgrades. Every model gets stiffened suspension, retuned shock absorbers, a revised steering system and model-specific tyres. The entry-level 1.8-litre model also benefits from the upgraded anti-roll bar in the 2.0-litre version.
