New limited-edition Abarth 695 Esseesse unveiled

Range-topping version of Abarth’s 695 becomes fastest version available

  • Powered by a 178bhp engine
  • Features lightweight panels and aero upgrades
  • Limited production run of 1,390 cars

Meet the new Abarth 695 Esseesse, a limited-edition model that becomes the quickest version of the brand’s hatchback thanks to lightweight panels and aerodynamic upgrades. It can get from 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 140mph.

Just 1,390 examples will roll off the production line, with exactly half (695) finished in Scorpion Black and the other half in Campovolo Grey. Abarth is yet to announce pricing information but we expect the Esseesse will be similarly priced to the 695 70th Anniversario edition at around £30,000.

The new 695 Esseesse is inspired by the classic 1964 model. It came equipped with a number of upgraded parts, designed by Carlo Abarth, and only 1,000 examples were ever built.

2021 Abarth 695 Esseesse: design

The new Abarth 695 Esseesse has been designed to be as light and aerodynamic as possible to maximise performance. It features a new Akrapovic exhaust system and an aluminium bonnet that reduce the car’s overall kerb weight by 10kg compared to the Abarth 595 Competizione.

The new hot hatch also has upgraded shock absorbers, red Brembo brake calipers and white 17-inch alloys, complemented by exclusive white exterior detailing. It’s also equipped with the manually adjustable spoiler found on the 695 70th Anniversario. The angle can be adjusted to a maximum of 60 degrees, offering up to 42kg of extra downforce.

Interior and specification

Inside, the new Abarth 695 Esseesse gets Sabelt sports seats featuring a ‘one of 695’ monogram embroidered on the headrests. The upholstery stitching matches the car’s external body colour, with contrasting red seat belts. The gear knob and steering wheel inserts, meanwhile, are wrapped in carbon fibre, while the Alcantara dashboard features a laser-cut ‘695 Esseesse’ badge.

The hot hatch is equipped with the Italian car marker’s Uconnect infotainment system, featuring a seven-inch touchscreen with sat nav and DAB radio, along with built-in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Engines and performance

The 695 Esseesse has the same turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine already in use in the rest of the 695 range. It produces 178bhp and 250Nm of torque. Matched to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, the 695 Esseesse can sprint from 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 140mph.
