Audi A1 hatchback - Practicality & boot space
The Audi A1 should suit the space requirements of most families
The latest Audi A1 is offered in just one five-door 'Sportback' body style, and this decision will find favour with anyone who has tried to fit a child seat in a three-door car. The layout means the front and rear seats are easy to access, and doesn't noticeably detract from its sporty style.
Audi A1 interior space & storage
The biggest advantage of the A1's noticeable growth spurt is that it's now much more comfortable inside. The driver, front passenger and even those in the back seats should feel more relaxed on long journeys. Even adults should get away without scuffed knees and flattened hair in the back.
Families will find access for a child seat is much easier now there's a set of rear doors giving access to the back seats and ISOFIX mounting points. However, the driver will find that large C-pillars mean the view out of the back isn't great, making the parking sensors fitted from Sport trim upwards very handy.
There are a number of door pockets dotted around the interior, and unlike some superminis where the glovebox is partly taken up with a fusebox, there's a decent amount of depth and space here. Coffee (and tea) lovers may be disappointed by the A1's lack of front cupholders.
Boot space
Luggage space has dramatically increased by 65 litres to 335. Fold down the rear seats for extra room on those festival camping jaunts and there's now 1,090 litres of room. Audi has also made the loading lip lower - sitting just 67cm off the tarmac - to make lifting heavy items less of a strain.
