Plus points Well finished, Quiet mechanicals,. Minus points Very cramped rear space, appalling amounts of road noise, no cruise control, delays setting off with auto box can be two seconds before it moves on releasing brake, depressing the accelerator just makes it lurch. Steering feels remote, ride poor. Overall seems like a dressed up poorer model a bit to much form over function.

The 1.4 litre turbo drives with enough power to carry a full car and overtake on highways at speed. It has a super small turning circle. It’s very comfortable for long journeys.

This is an update to my original review of my A1. It has now reached its third birthday, and still impresses with its magnificent build quality, and interior refinement. Its been utterly reliable, nothing has gone wrong with the vehicle, and it returns very impressive fuel economy of over 70mpg, during its long journeys to visit friends and relatives. The car has never been used for city commuting, and only does long journeys, so i have never had any issues with its particulate filter, a thing one must alway's be wary about, if the vehicle is used for short journeys. Like all A1s, it was not a cheap car to purchase new, but with still two years remaining on my 5yr Service plan, it will keep ownership of it for some years to come. Surprisingly, the insurance for my car has fallen to only £152 full comp, and it still remains free to tax annually. The car is built to last, and still looks almost like new, i almost feel that the initial purchase cost has been justified. Its been totally reliable, is a joy to drive, and is still worth over half its initial value after three years.

I have had this car for 3 years. It has been back to the garage on average about once every 6 months for various problems. Good stuff- it looks great and feels good inside. However, after first month of owning I couldn't get into my petrol cap to fill up (this was a recall issue). The car kept losing power through the battery due to poor grounding (another recall issue). Stop start system was very unreliable (new fuel pump fitted). Horrible creaking sound through forward bulkhead (new engine mount). Constant rattling from underside of car audible on lovely summer drives (sounds like an 81 plate Escort on hill climbs) this remains unresolved (best to drive in winter with windows closed). Currently in garage after power steering failure (still in there ). Have had to fill the engine with oil on two occasions despite scheduled services. My lease is up very soon and cant wait to see the back of the car (one of the attractive aspects). Good customer care from Audi, though this does wear thin after a while (something the offer of a coffee and leather sofa will not resolve). I thought I would never say this, but I have been using a Toyota Yaris whilst car in garage as Audi couldn't give me a courtesy car, despite another major fault. The Yaris has been bliss to drive.

Great car, great engine, perfect size. The back seats are kinnda small but thats not a problem to me as a single guy. The suspension its kinnda on the firm side.. so its not that comfortable on bad roads.

Very happy with build quality and pleasing design. Main problem is excessive overrun explained by Audi as the result of powerful engine with a camparitive light body. This overrun problem can be quite frightening and possibly dangerous and takes some getting used to. Economy good, averaging 55mpg

Does not live up to expectations. Paint defect on collection requiring respray. Car broke down on first day of use due to coolant leak. Audi recommended auto-glym lifeshine guarantee certificate has wrong registration number on it. Car set up for longlife service, sevice book ticked for inspection service. Interior door panel already developing scratches.

I just sold it after only 18 months. I had been driving along a dual carriageway and lost all drive, almost stalling. I was able to limp home in second, fourth and sixth gears. A garage read the fault code and diagnosed the "mechatronic" gear selector had gone. I ended up taking it to a main dealer for a full inspection. They soon called me to say that my 31,000 mile car needed a new gearbox. Its price? £6,000. Half the value of the car for something that should not wear out, yet alone simply break. The fault was a multiplex chain that had shredded itself. I will never buy another Audi

An absolute pleasure to drive. such a tiny of it's kind Audi but so powerful. It's very nippy, extremely comfortable and great both motorways and city roads. Sleek design and great specs. I will definitely stick with this brand as it's been extremely reliable and a pleasure to drive.

Wouldn't waste money on owning another one - it has a harsh and uncomfortable ride, there was a turbo failure at 20k miles, and it's been in and out for rattle repairs since I pretty much bought the car. The only positive I can say is they are nice to look at, and it has a nippy engine with plenty of overtaking power in 6th - it just has poor build quality.

I have owned my new Audi A1 TDI for less than a fortnight, and have only added 162 miles on the odometer, but if the fuel computer is accurate, I have already averaged more than 60mpg. The refinement and over all driving experience behind the wheel is far better than i could ever have imagined. Taking the occasional test drive only provides you with a basic idea of "can I live with this car". Audi are renowned for their build quality, and magnificent interiors, and this small A1 delights in every department, you are certainly not losing any quality or refinement by downsizing from a larger Audi to their A1. Some may question the choice of a diesel under the bonnet of this supermini, but this engine is extremely quiet for an oil burner, and Audi have certainly worked hard to provide an engine that is both frugal and refined. My car has the added Sat/Nav and Climatic A/C, and everything works ever so well. The Audi is not certainly not a cheap car to purchase, but those who have the financial means to buy one, will be rewarded with a simply magnificent driving experience.

I have owned this car for a few years and can't fault it, brilliant small car. I have been driving for 40 yrs and I have driven large and small cars and I can say this defiantly has been one of the best. Good reliable, comfortable, nippy, quiet, all mod cons what more can one want!

My first Audi, coming up to three years old (81,000 miles) and it's been faultless. Ok, so I find the boot too small and nobody likes sitting in the back but I bought it for me and I love it. It's time to change though so I'm having a Sportback with the same 1.6 diesel engine but this time the S Tronic gearbox. Hopefully five doors will hush the back seat moaners a bit. The boot's no bigger so that's still going to annoy me but hey, the seats fold so I'll live. It's expensive to buy but I'm more than happy with the trade in price. A cheaper car would have lost money faster and just been a smaller contribution to the next one at PX time so it's neither here nor there.

Pretty car...1.4 tsfi Sport S-tronic...Rubbish seats, worst ever, except for original Honda Civic which sent me to chiropractor. (Stop)/start very lumpy.Engine revs. Into red at least provocation. DIS far too clever by half...overcomplicated and largely unproductive/no joined-up thinking here! Mpg over 50? In your dreams. Drive...no feedback, no feel, too remote. BUT...t 60 - 90 mph ..Oh Yes!
