All-new Audi Q3 spied on test for the first time
The third-generation Audi Q3 is in development, and our latest spy shots have captured it ahead of its 2024 launch
- Likely to be one of Audi’s last combustion-engined new models
- Expected in SUV and coupe-SUV Sportback guise
- Due in 2024
Audi is working on the third generation of the Audi Q3 mid-size SUV, and it’s been spotted undergoing testing. The next Q3 will be one of the brand’s last new cars with an internal combustion engine, with the similarly-sized electric Q4 e-tron currently catering for buyers after an EV alternative. It will compete with rivals such as the facelifted Mercedes GLA and the latest BMW X1.
New Audi Q6 e-tron: interior revealed, plus prototype review
Though the spy images of the camouflaged Q3 offer only a small glimpse into what the upright SUV version looks like, the new Audi Q3 looks to be getting a more comprehensive redesign this time around. Most notably, we can see the new car’s much slimmer headlights and wide grille, giving it a more menacing look than before.
Similarly, the rear gets a redesign incorporating sleek tail lights – these units also appear to extend down vertically at the sides of the car in a new wishbone shape, inspired by the latest Audi Q8 e-tron. However, it doesn’t appear to be getting a full-length light bar as seen in the brand’s electric offerings. A coupe-SUV Sportback model is also expected to make a return, with a more aerodynamic shape that could help improve its efficiency.
Although specific details are yet to be confirmed, the next Audi Q3 is expected to share its engine lineup with the new Audi A4, ushering in a choice of mild-hybrid petrol powertrains. It will also see the return of a plug-in hybrid option with the same 14.4kWh battery used in the current Q5 PHEV, despite the discontinuation of the outgoing Q3 plug-in hybrid. Although the industry is largely moving away from diesel engines, this option may also be offered for high-mileage drivers.
Pricing is another area of speculation, although we expected a small increase over the outgoing car’s entry-level figure or £34,325 when the new Audi Q3 goes on sale in 2024.
