Citroen C3 Aircross review - Boot space, practicality & dimensions
“Stick with five seats and the middle row is very spacious, while the seven-seater offers extra flexibility that’s rare in this class”
Citroen expects most buyers will keep the C3 Aircross as a five-seater, which is its standard setup. In this guise, the rear bench is positioned 65mm further back to improve legroom, so we’d stick with this version if you think you’d only use a third row very occasionally and can do without it. Do so, and even six-foot tall adults will be happy in the back, while there’s also decent foot space under the front seats and plentiful headroom thanks to its tall roof. There aren’t many niceties in the back, though, with two USB-C ports and a 12-volt socket for charging mobile devices, but little else.
If you do go for the seven seat option – which certainly helps the C3 Aircross stand out in this class – the ‘easy-tilt’ middle row makes it pretty easy to get in the third row. Realistically, the back seats only offer enough space for kids, with adults likely to find the lack of knee and foot room rather uncomfortable. This puts it behind the Dacia Jogger if you really need an affordable seven-seater, and there’s no ISOFIX for the third row in the Citroen.

Does the Citroen C3 Aircross have a big boot?
Make use of the third row and there’s just 40 litres of space remaining, which is barely enough for a few rucksacks. Fold the third row flat, however, and there’s a more respectable 330 litres (300 litres in the Hybrid), extending to 1,470 litres with the middle row stowed. The five-seater has a slightly bigger boot again, measuring 460 litres or up to 1,600 litres when the rear seats are folded down. We also appreciated the flaps that sit over the third row seats when they are folded down, making sure your items don’t get lost in any nooks or crannies.

Is the Citroen C3 Aircross a good tow car?
It would be easy to assume the small engines fitted in the C3 Aircross would make it a poor choice for towing, but it’s not actually too bad. Pick the PureTech 100 and it can haul a 1,500kg braked trailer, while going for the Hybrid reduces this slightly to 1,250kg. You’ll want to avoid the e-C3 Aircross here, though, because it’s restricted to towing just a 350kg trailer.
