Very impressed with this little car. It is cute, funky, sporty and smart. I did a lot of research before I bought this car. 18 months in fact. The Fiat was not what I was looking for and not the colour I would have chosen (dark red with black roof and spoiler). When I saw it I just fell in love and when I test drove it I was smitten. Reviewers always go on about small boot space but it is just right for my family shop and carries quite a few big shopping bags. The Fiat 500 holds its own on the motorway. Yes there is a lot of road and wind noise but that is not something that bothers me, in fact it is quite comforting. Ultimately I love my car and most definitely recommend the Fiat 500. Will I buy another? I will most likely have another fiat 500 yes.

Loved the car until things started going wrong. At its recent service (2 weeks before garauntee expired) I was told I needed a new radiator, ball arm joint and clutch seal. The stop start function was not working and was giving a message 'check engine'. The latter I was told was due to the short distances I did and was ok to continue driving. The car actually broke down yesterday evening. Had to be brought home on a pickup truck. The fuel pump is not operating. This is not acceptable from a 2 and a half year old car with low mileage.

Not very well refined when compared to something like a Honda Jazz, although it is to be expected with a 900cc engine. Very charming and the infotainment was pretty good for 2012, which came with removable Sat Nav with a stand that attaches to a special port on the dash, which provides power (so no dangling cables). Wasn't comfortable at all for long hauls, which is why I traded it as my circumstances had changed.

Brilliant little car, fantastic fun and perfect for the city. I was blown away by the amount of power you get from the 0.9 litre engine, i'm 20 and it's a fantastic first car, small, economical and fun, if you're thinking about getting one go for one of the Twin Air engines and they are more responsive than the 1.2. Also if you go for the twin air engines they are free to tax as they put out 98g/km of CO2 I absolutely love it and i'm going to keep it for a long time.

Fiat 500 is a fantastic looking little car that makes you happy when you see it. The interior aswell has a fantastic design. The car is nice to drive and the chassis feels great especially when driving on smaller twisty roads or in town. But the engine is the cars biggest drawback it has to be worked hard and feels quite dull with a very loud strained sound. The car is very loud at higher speeds. Overall the car fells good but comparing it with my other cars merc, bmw it doesn´t really fells that solid. It really feels italian, great design lot´s of character but not perfect underneath.

I love my retro Fiat 500. I bought it because of the brown leather seats in a reasonably priced car and it has no sunroof (I am light sensitive). It had the added bonus of being a pretty mint green exterior. The car handles well on the highway and in the city. Good pick up, easy parking and great gas consumption (average of 5 hrs commute a week costs me $25 Canadian, in city and congested hwy driving). Good grip on the road in rain. In winter driving conditions the low clearance is not ideal in deep snow, but it rarely snows here. In the 3 years of owning they Fiat, the interior is still my favourite part. I love the off white dash board with the brown leather seats. The cost to run the car is the best that I have had. It has cost me yearly oil changes (air filters) and one change of a set of brakes at 48,000km. I am still on the original tyres and was told they are fine. I paid far more in repairs when I drove a Toyota Rav4 and Ford SUV. My little Fiat is small on the exterior but has plenty of leg room and head room (am 5 ft 7 inches). The back seats fit an average height adult male comfortably. The back and front seats fold down to fit a long purchase all the way up to the front windshield. The trunk fits plenty of groceries hidden from view. Occasionally when at a certain high RPM, there is a tiny vibration in the dashboard. I just had the brakes changed and forgot to mention the dashboard loose part, so clearly it is not an issue. If you are used to perky pick up it has a sport feature to get immediate response, or a smoother ride with a 5 second lag, you choose your ride. I love how my android phone connects to my Fiat’s bluetooth for phone, voice recognition dialings and it even reads incoming texts to me, if I want. The heated seats in winter are toasty warm on frosty mornings. I have owned Mazda, Buick, Ford and Toyota, to date this has been my favourite car. My Fiat 500 retro is a joy to drive and fully recommend it to anyone who does city driving or long commutes.

Firstly this car is used for everything, by this I mean, commuting, long journeys etc. The car is really nice to look at and certainly fun to drive. The engine is a 1.2 petrol and for a engine of its size delivers a nice amount of power in town and between 70-80mph on the motorway. I was under no illusion that this was going to be a BMW beater when I bought this car. The car is only run on Shell Nitro and averages 48.5 mpg around town, 52 mph on the motorway. For this first 30K it was nearly completely trouble free, with the exception of a worn ignition pack causing intermittent misfiring. I had trouble with the door handles, too – the quality of parts is poor and clipping issues etc. became the flavour of the day so be warned Fiat haven't gone to far from their reputation even with this model. At 65,000 miles things went really wrong, the vehicle is serviced as per the owner's manual and the timing belt and water pump done at 67K. Unfortunately, it would appear the whole front end has decided to fall apart, I have had to replace strut tops and bearings, bushes (all over), dampers (front and rear), bearings, driveshaft' with issues still ongoing. With the issues migrating to the rear of the vehicle now. I am driver who takes great pride in my vehicles in maintenance and driving and Fiat have in 2018 alone taken over £3K from me yet my car is still faulty. I am now entering the electrical phase of my vehicle's attempts to retire itself with the stop start now only working on stalling and randomly failing on long journeys! (Note I have already replaced the battery and had a full alternator and compression test completed to rule out any mechanical gremlins) My garage lovea me and I'm fast believing I should buy shares in the business. I would recommend the vehicle on lease but would not recommend buying the car out right in the hope of running the car for anything over 5 years (60K). It would appear Fiat have developed all components to have a maximum life span of 3 -5 years with the car designed to domino fail when a single component gives up.

We have owned this car for just four months and found the gearbox rattling at 3,500rpm revs and an oil leak from the engine. We took the car back to the garage and found the timing chain had jumped, the sump gasket had gone the gearbox needed repair and the car needed a new clutch. Luckily, we took out extra insurance but the car only has only covered 26000 miles and is only 3 years old. We're so very surprised these parts would fail at such a young age.

The Fiat 500's are undeniably trendy and I had been dreaming about getting one for ages, when I passed my driving test I went straight to buying one. I have now owned my fiat 500, 61 plate for about a year and a half. I bought it used with one previous owner with just 26,000 miles on the clock. After about 9 months of owning the car, one day when I went to get into my car I noticed the door handle on the drivers side looked lose, on upon pulling it to open the door whilst inspecting it, the door handle snapped and was left hanging on by the front end, so I had to replace this, I just put it down as a small fault, then I found out a number of my friends had the same issue and little did I know this was just the small beginning to many problems with my fiat. Just over a year of having the car, I have had to have the clutch replaced which came about when i started hearing a loud noise coming from under the bonnet slowly but gradually. At this point the car was only on about 33,000 miles so i thought it was ridiculous to need a new clutch at only 33,000 miles. After I got my clutch done, there was still a slight noise coming from the bonnet, after a few days it started getting louder and louder like a clattering noise or like something was scraping along the floor in the lower gears and then I noticed oil leaking from under my car. When I took it back to get it checked, I was told I now needed a new gearbox, which was what was causing the awful noise and I was told it would cost me hundreds to fix with a new one which is virtually unaffordable to a student just finishing school. Just a few short weeks after discovering the problem with the gear box, I noticed my car was making a loud squeaking noise whenever I braked. I got this checked to find that I needed new brake pads and urgently with them rubbing on the discs could lead to more permanent damage. I haven't even had this car for 2 years and it's only a few years old and has already cost me ridiculous amounts of money on getting things fixed/replaced at only 33,000 miles which should not be happening. Although this is a cute and trendy car for young drivers/your first car, and appears to be cheap to run to begin with, i would not recommend this car to anyone who couldn't afford to pay out hundreds of pounds every few months, really disappointed with this car as i was so looking forward to having it but it has caused me nothing but trouble! After reading up online, all of these faults seem to be common in early mileage with the fiat 500's and fiat should definitely be doing something about it because it isn't right!

I bought this car as soon as i passed my driving test. I was instantly attracted to its italian charm. I bought the car used from a Fiat dealership used (12 months old) with 10,000 miles on the clock. The car for the first 4 years was brilliant. It cost me the odd tyre and a set of brake pads. Very suddenly, the car began to make a very loud fan noise coming from underneath the hood. This noise happened occasionally at first and progressively became worse. I took it to a garage for a service and to check what the noise was. The service found nothing to be wrong with car. No warning lights on the dash board. Later that week the car began to constantly sound like i was driving a jet with the fan under the bonnet over working. I returned back to the garage were they said it looked as if my head gasket was on its way out. My car at this point had only done 39,000 miles. They filled the car with water and told me to keep an eye on it. It later that day totally broke down on me and caused my brakes to seize. I had it towed back to the garage were they replaced the head gasket, repaired my cylinder head etc and it cost me £900. When the car was returned to me it felt sluggish, kept jolting in 2nd and 3rd gear, and made a very loud vibrating noise when at a stand still traffic or parked up with the engine on. After 3 days of it being repaired my loud fan noise returned and when I lifted the bonnet, thick brown liquid was leaking from where the coolant goes. I opened the top of the coolant and oil, water and coolant came bursting out indicating that yet again my head gasket had gone. I contacted Fiats head office, who informed me to take my car to a Fiat garage. I received my money back from the garage that had replaced the head gasket. The conclusion from Fiat was that my car was out of warranty, I hadn't had it serviced by them (even though it has a full service history) which they do not specify that you need to do when you buy the car, and that they would not rectify the problem. My main issue with Fiat was that i had no warning lights come up on the dash board to warn me of the danger to my engine and head gasket. Even when the car gushed out all of the oil and water still no warning light came on. Fiats reply to this was that no warning lights come on for water or coolant and your oil levels have to be very low before they come on. For my car to be repaired they quoted me £8,500 and offered me to part ex it for another one. They told me my car was virtually a write off and wouldn't be worth fixing. I would be very careful buying a Fiat 500 if you want your car to last more than 39,000 miles. Whilst the car has lasted me 4 years I am now without a car and at this present time unable to finance another as I am a nursing student. When i bought the car I assumed it would last longer than 39,000 miles. Whilst i'm sure that my case may be a bit of bad luck, Fiat will do nothing to help.

Mpg no where near to the 68 mpg I was told I would get. Even when it was new I only ever got about 55mpg. This has gradually decreased to about 51mpg as the car ages. Gear cable snapped after only 3 years and 32000 miles which I thought was bad. I've owned cars much older that haven't had this problem. Dealership weren't prepared to investigate fault or help in any way with a courtesy car so I agree with the poor customer service fiat customers seem to be getting. Not worth the money they cost. Wouldn't buy another and wouldn't recommend to anyone either. Very disappointed as I wanted a Fiat 500 for years

Build quality compares favourably with any of the many cars I've owned during 50+years motoring. Economical, nippy and fun to drive. Even with a chip update that greatly increases power it has been 100% reliable and after a wash the black paint looks as though it is brand new. Our family have, over the years owned nine Fiats, this is the best. I have the car serviced by a local general garage, it costs no more than any other car I've owned but valeting costs are much lower. I like the 500

Clutch replaced at 6,000 miles, do not like action of clutch, feels course. Overall pleased with car, not as refined as toyota yaris it replaced. other cars land rover defender, rover 75 tourer, mg zt 260, mgb gt v8, mgb roadster, and original mini. So the 500 is the local run around, and the first fiat owned by me. Ride can be choppy at time and a little light in the tail as is can bounce around corners.

It's a fashion accessory so it's pretty, definitely a woman's car. It is also easy to drive. However, the handling, breaking, power and fuel economy are not as good as i would like. Servicing costs are extortionate.

Having had small cars for ages I thought I'd try the 500 , and went for the Lounge. Have to say after having a Mini One 1.6 it's been a massive learning curve. The fiat has no power, is sluggish and the seats are the worst I've sat in for being uncomfortable, unless you're only in the car for short journeys. The interior is plasticky, you can lower the front seats which I had to do as my head touched the roof (5'6), which then gives you a nice gap at the back of the seat as only the back lowers, which then tips your knees up so you're then sitting in a dining room chair position. Boot likes to open itself too. One ok thing is it's small for around town driving, but don't expect to be making any sudden moves as you'll need time for the car to think about it, very strange for a tiny car with a 1.2 engine, my Yaris 1.0 had more to it. Looks nice, the TV adverts nice, and that's about it, would suit a driver who is perhaps new, so won't notice the lack of drive. Will be getting rid in the new year!

The earlier 500 was a really nice little car, surprisingly comfortable, rode well and had a decent turn of speed. The "facelift" has ruined it. The seats are now terrible, the ride is crashy and noisy and the engine is utterly punchless while using far more fuel than the old car. The new touchscreen radio is completely hopeless with a nasty tinny sound quality - the old one was fine. FIAT has downgraded a nice car to a terrible one.

Always thought this car was cute. And heard cheap to run and insure. It was the worst car I’ve ever driven. Spent so much money on repairs, brakes, both rear shocks and driver's wishbone at front. Passenger wishbone was then on way out. Then after all that the car started making squeaks every time you hit a bump. You fix something then it’s something else. Just glad I was in a minor accident and it was a write off. Never would have got the full price otherwise. Good riddance.

Rubbish car. The gearbox needed replacement, the rear shocks needed replacement, then I began having starting problems. Nothing but trouble. I was looking for a 500 for years because the looks really appealed to me, but after buying this car my opinion changed. I wouldn't touch this brand with a barge pole.

I bought this car used with only 19000 on the clock and only 1 owner so was expecting a few hassle free years of motoring...How wrong could I be! First the radio stopped working and was replaced under warranty. Then a window seal went to give me a constant annoying whistling on the motorway. Then the thermostat went, dumping all the coolant on the A38 in rush hour traffic! It failed its first MOT on the two rear shock absorbers, then the passenger seat started creaking – apparently a common fault. There's an annoying rattling coming from behind the dashboard, and in 12 months I've had to replace 4 headlight bulbs and 2 tail lights, the list of niggling problems seems to just go on. Don't be fooled by the charming retro appeal of these cars! The Fiat 500 is not worth the hassle.

This is the 3rd 500 I have owned. I have one of the first Nuovo 500w when they were first launched with no issues at all in the 2 years of owning her. After 5 years of driving Alfas and an IX35 my wife decided she wanted to get the new facelifted 1.2 Lounge with sat nav and all the goodies. That car has been amazing, used everyday with no issues at all. Even though I purchased this for her I was still hankering for the twin air 105 so two weeks after hers arrived I ordered my own 500s 105 in White with leather red mirrors and black alloys. I soon forgot it was a series 3 car even though id was registed after my wifes series 4 as it is a totally different car. It is cheaper to insure, no road tax I get 50 to 55 mph and the seats are more comfortable. Every time I drive it I have the biggest smile on my face, it pulls like no other car and is a joy in every way. No issues to date next car will be an Abarth 180

Pretty car, inside a bit cheap looking on certain parts. Worst thing is that I mainly do short trips and the anti pollution filter is always getting clogged, then I have to drive with masses of white smoke coming out the exhaust until it's burnt off the oil. I have had the power steering light and engine light come on due to a software fault which I now have to pay £100 for Fiat to fix.
