MPG, running costs & CO2 Rating

3.0 out of 5

None of the engines available in the Ford EcoSport come close to the best-in-class in terms of fuel-efficiency, but the car should prove relatively cheap to insure and parts shouldn’t be too expensive, either.

Ford EcoSport MPG & CO2

Ford has slimmed down the EcoSport range, so there are now just two petrol engines and the diesels are no longer available. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine is capable of over 47mpg, while emissions range from 135g/km to 137g/km. Company-car drivers will pay fairly high Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax no matter which version they choose. Ford no longer offers an automatic gearbox with the EcoSport but it was less economical than the manual gearbox, so isn’t really missed.

The 99bhp 1.5-litre diesel was the most economical engine, returning 57.6mpg and emitting up to 130g/km of CO2, but the higher output 123bhp engine was only available with four-wheel drive, returning a reasonable 53.3mpg while emitting 139g/km of CO2.

Insurance groups

The 1.0-litre 123bhp EcoSport starts in insurance group 12, rising to group 13 for the 138bhp ST-Line. The 99bhp diesel starts in insurance group 11 but rises sharply to 17 with 123bhp and four-wheel-drive.

Servicing

Ford has one of the biggest dealer networks in the country, so keeping your EcoSport in good condition should prove relatively easy. Maintenance is also cheap, with a basic service costing around £125 and a main service priced at around £200. Ford will carry out two services over two years for roughly £350 or three over three years for £600.

Warranty

All new Fords come with a three-year/60,000-mile warranty, which is similar to those offered by a number of other manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Nissan and Vauxhall. Some buyers will be attracted to rivals by Kia and Hyundai when they see that those companies offer seven and five-year warranties respectively. It’s possible to extend the warranty to five years/100,000 miles.
