Honda Accord Tourer estate owner reviews

"The upmarket Honda Accord Tourer is an excellent motorway car that's also well equipped. Only a relatively small boot and a high price let it down."

Superbly reliable over 70k miles with just low profile tyres & brake pads having needed changing. Garaged overnight since 11k miles. Has a cavernous boot that swallows everything from holiday gear to washing machine/fridge freezer, Sat Nav is wonderful but updates by dvd £145! Addition of sun roof lessens need for aircon & adds to light & airy feel

Clutch failed at 32,000 miles, Honda replaced under warranty without any issues at all. First class service from Honda in Hereford.

Very poor for towing. Max tow weight 1100kg. Auto box not very good unlike the petrol version that was fantastic.

I have to say that the car has some very good points as it loaded with lots of switches and automation so I cannot dismiss it completely. The elephant in the room is the DPF which is something until very recently I did not know about. Now I am quite expert. If you do short journeys or keep the revs low on the motorway to eke out fuel you run the high risk of blockage of your Diesel Particle Filter. Because the car will produce carbon dust (soot) and if it’s not burnt in the DPF by extra fuel or heat from the engine it will block. Leading to garage bills, to be force regenerated which soon wipes out any benefit of the economy benefit of running a diesel. The DPF does not class as a warranty part in after care packages so beware of big bills. The control of how the car manages to clear the filter are not that transparent even though car does have information a plenty, if you press the right button for most things on the car. It really needs more information regarding the temperature of the DPF and the differential pressure which the indicator of the how full the filter is. So the upshot is small journeys diesels are now a liability.

Having driven a Type "S" for 3 years (now written off!!}, I elected for a "EX" model which I now have. Reliability of both is excellent except for one item - the DPF filter assembly!! Both cars have given a great deal of trouble in this respect despite a weekly drive of 50 miles motorway driving to clear the system. Now cold weather has returned the problem is cropping up again on the EX as it did on the S type. Whilst the problem is always promptly corrected by Avonvale Honda on warranty, it is the inconvenience that is irksome.
