Honda Civic Hybrid saloon owner reviews

"Honda's Civic IMA offers a petrol-electric hybrid engine and low fuel consumption. It's good around town, but is equally as impressive on the motorway."

Apart from the battery failing, this car has been great. Back seats fold down so i can use it like a hatch, but with an enormous, secure boot when i need it. A full 5-seater with comfortable seats, good air-con and good visibility all-round, even for rear passengers, unlike the newer versions with their rising waistlines and sloping roof. Happy to buy a newer version of the same car.

Rattles and is far too hard a drive . Also no spare wheel living in a rural area with lots of potholes ie tyres get wrecked and cant be repaired hence the blow up kit is useless . Bad blind spots

Does what it says on the tin. Other than a slightly harsh ride, no complaints about the car. Not so impressed with the honda main dealer i use; definitely wouldn't buy another car from them.

The Honda Civic Hybrid is the worst ever car I've ever owned. The shape, style & hybrid power (less pollution) is what attracted me to this car. I would've purchased a Prius but it isn't a saloon & is very unappealing shape/ style. The Civic Hybrid is poorly designed in so many areas. It's a rust bucket, the rear wheel arches rust, the boot area rusts and lets in water (this is common with Honda) the engine bay rusts. The seam sealant/ panel bonding that honda used is inferior quality and comes apart under regular usage from vibrations. The rain gets in the boot area and inner cavities somehow, especially rear quarter panel and wheel arches. The wheel arch lip is a 'J' type lip edge not 'L' type lip edge, the J type edge is a trap for mud/water etc & is impossible to clean the crevice that is the 'J' type lip/ wheel arch edge, the space is like 5 or 6mm so you cant even run your fingers in the gap to remove mud. Honda (despite corrosion warranty 10 years ) doesn't cover anything under warranty unless you've had every service done at Honda main dealer (and I've read even with FHSH they make the customer pay a big portion of the repair cost) The IMA battery fails and the CVT transmission too (very dangerous when car doesn't accelerate due to bad IMA battery and also due to bad CVT – (CVT starting clutch problem, spline and belt/ other problems). The IMA battery replacement is way overpriced for what it is e.g NiMH 'D' cells – the Honda price is £3,000 or more, and from what Ive read online the internal cells aren't even new battery cells. They should sell brand new cell/sticks, so people can replace the faulty sticks in their IMA battery unit. It's not a complicated operation. The engines on this model are very noisy (like internal components break) and have several design flaws, they suffer piston slap and timing chain tensioner problems... in my opinion all of these Civic Hybrids (2006-2011) should be recalled and repaired free of charge. In my experience, Honda treat their customers very badly and deny any responsibility. Their customer relations personnel are downright rude and patronise the customer.

Have had "honda's" for the past 20 years and have found them to be very reliable. The only down side i have with my present car, is that i find the ride a bit to hard, also no back wiper. Looking forward to seing the new civic that is due out next year.
