Hyundai Bayon SUV - Practicality & boot space
The Bayon’s boot is a little disappointing, but it’s pretty close to the Kona’s
It might be based on a supermini, but the Hyundai Bayon's tall roof and expanded proportions means it pips the i20 for boot space.
Hyundai Bayon interior space & storage
A 4cm increase in height over the Hyundai i20 means getting in and out of the Bayon is very easy. Once inside, space is somewhat limited and larger adults may find the Bayon a bit cramped for long journeys. In the front seats it feels slightly narrow, with less shoulder room than some rivals. Legroom in the back is reasonable, with decent knee room for two adults.
There’s barely any room under the front seats to slide your feet, so you may find rear-seat passengers almost hugging their knees. It’s the same story in the i20.
The glovebox is a useful size and there are large door bins, along with a small cubby beneath the dashboard. This is where you can find a wireless charging pad for compatible smartphones. However, the storage space between the front seats is rather small.
Boot space
The Bayon offers a boot that’s nearly the same size as the Hyundai Kona’s, although in truth that’s not much of an achievement. Both are pretty small for the class and the Bayon’s 334-litre boot is beaten by some superminis. The Skoda Kamiq and Peugeot 2008 offer around 400 and 430 litres respectively. At least the Bayon features an adjustable boot floor that can be positioned to provide a flush surface with the loading lip, making loading and unloading easier.
Unsurprisingly, the Kamiq also offers more space if the rear seats are folded down, with 1,395 litres trumping the 1,205 litres in the Bayon.
Towing
It's too small and light to tow a really heavy load but the Bayon can haul a braked trailer weighing up to 1,110kg. It's also worth noting that if you plan on towing an unbraked trailer, the weight limit is 450kg, rather than the 750kg limit of most bigger vehicles.
