The Hyundai Ioniq performs very strongly for customer feedback, and its safety credentials are unimpeachable, so we'd have no problems recommending it as a family car.
Hyundai Ioniq reliability
The Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid came 27th out of the top 75 models in our 2021 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey, which is a great result. It scored highly for reliability and build quality, with only a small percentage of owners telling us they experienced one or more faults within the first year, mostly related to the electrics, engine or gearbox. Buyers loved the car’s low running costs, helped by cheap servicing and maintenance.
In our Driver Power list of the best car manufacturers, Hyundai finished in a middling 16th position out of 29 brands ranked. Good marks were also scored for its infotainment systems and value.
Safety
The Ioniq is a very safe car. Despite test criteria being made increasingly stringent, it scored the full five stars when assessed by Euro NCAP. All Ioniqs sold in the UK include automatic emergency braking that can bring you to a stop if it thinks you're going to have a crash, adaptive cruise control to take the strain out of long motorway drives, seven airbags, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning to prevent unintended lane changes and rear cross-traffic alert, which makes reversing safer.
