The Volkswagen ID.5 is bigger than it might first appear. The styling is, as ever, a matter of taste, but I don't think it can be described as attractive, and certainly not the 'coupe' VW seems to think it is.
Driving, it feels it's size and weight – heavy and slow. The actual 0-62mph time isn't too bad, but in reality, it feels pretty ponderous. The brakes are mushy and don't inspire confidence.
As others have found, the software is very poor, despite updates. It tries to tailor things like heating to your previous preferences, but consistently gets it wrong and will keep asking if you want to change things.
Most worryingly, the transition between braking and accelerating is sometimes delayed by two or three seconds, so when coming up to a roundabout, for example, and looking to accelerate away, it can leave you momentarily stranded.
The interior is ok, if bland. There's no electric seat adjustment or rear windscreen wiper for some reason, and it's generally not up to the quality expected at this price point. The panoramic sunroof is nice, but the cover rattles a lot.
Range is between 240 and 280 miles depending on the weather. Charging works fine and is reasonably quick.
Overall, for the cost, this is a pretty poor effort from VW and not what you would expect when paying £50k for a car.
