Mercedes B-Class MPV - Reliability & safety
Mercedes owner satisfaction could be better, but there are fewer doubts over safety
Mercedes prides itself on cutting-edge safety technology, and the latest B-Class strides forwards from its predecessor in this regard. However, the brand's reputation for owner satisfaction is not as good as you might expect for such a ‘premium’ manufacturer.
Mercedes B-Class reliability
Several Mercedes models featured in our 2022 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey, including the A-Class on which the B-Class is based. It finished in a strong 30th place out of the top 75 models but could only manage an adequate result for reliability and build quality. Owners gave the A-Class high scores for its interior and comfort, engines and gearboxes and infotainment.
Safety
The B-Class scored a maximum five-star rating when Euro NCAP crash tested it in 2019. It scored highly for Adult Occupant protection with 96%, and a Child Occupancy rating of 90%.
A score of 75% was also awarded for the long list of standard safety equipment. With equipment such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and active brake assist, which is designed to reduce the severity of a rear-end impact with slower traffic in front.
Active cruise control and lane keeping assist are both available, and can operate together to help you follow traffic, with active lane change assist on hand should you wish to overtake. All versions come with seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag, but only AMG Line Premium and Premium Plus models get blind-spot warnings.
