Having owned both the E250 & E350 CDI deisels in Avantgarde trim, there are good and bad elements to each. Comfort, build quality and refinement are first rate. In E250 form a persistent problem was injector failure with numerous replacements in all 4 cylinders. The E350 has a V6 engine and although less fuel efficient, this is THE engine for power and smooth delivery. Much quieter than its smaller sybling. Both automatic gearboxes were the 7g tiptronic plus and both had periodic niggles with confused changes. The food news is a software upgrade and periodic resets, which can be done by the driver following a very simple series of steps, puts this right. Would I recommend the car? I have had a lot of E Class deisel cars over the years. If you are prepared to look after them properly they won't let you down. They do lose a lot of residual value from new, but most luxury cars seem to. There are few cars that make the owner feel quite as special as a MB.

This is my sixth Mercedes E Class and is the best by far. Has a superb comfortable ride even on run flat tyres, good fuel consumption – I'm averaging 48 mpg since taking to the road. On long weekend journeys to Wales from Brackley I average over 50 mpg at average journey speed of 60 mph. A round day trip is 360 miles in superb silent luxury.

I must say this is the best car I have ever owned. The tech is awesome, I'm really enjoying the widescreen cockpit. The car handles well and gives great mileage on fuel. The ride is smooth I chose the SE as the AMG comes with runflat tyres. I also believe the SE on standard 17” wheels offers a smoother ride.
