New Mercedes GLC Coupe: pricing, specs and design changes
A new version of the Mercedes GLC Coupe SUV is on its way, available with mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid power

- On sale from July 2023
A replacement for the Mercedes GLC Coupe has been in the works for some time, to appeal to buyers after a more svelte version of the Mercedes GLC SUV. Now the German brand has fully revealed the Coupe SUV which rivals the likes of the BMW X4 and Audi Q5 Sportback.
The second-generation Mercedes GLC Coupe will be an important car for Mercedes, given the standard Mercedes GLC SUV’s status as the brand’s best selling car. For context, the first-generation coupe variant accounted for up to a quarter of the GLC’s sales.
2023 Mercedes GLC Coupe design
The sloping roofline will come at the expense of boot space compared with the GLC SUV, but at 545 litres it’ll offer plenty of space for most. However, boot space drops dramatically to just 390 litres for the plug-in hybrid models.
In a similar fashion to the release of the GLC SUV last year, updates to the Coupe include a wider range of electrified options compared with its predecessor. Mild-hybrid drivetrains include two 2.0-litre petrol GLC 200 and 300 engines, and two 2.0-litre diesel GLC 220 d and 300 d options. Currently Europe’s entry-level GLC 200 is unavailable in the UK on the standard SUV, so it’s unlikely this will be available on the Coupe.
Engines, range and charging
The GLC 300 mild-hybrid petrol model offers around 258bhp for a 0-62mph time of 6.3 seconds. Mild-hybrid diesel 220 d and 300 d models produce 197bhp and 269bhp respectively, for 0-62mph times of 8.1 seconds and 6.4 for the most powerful diesel.
Plug-in hybrid options include two 2.0-litre petrols, known as GLC 300 e and 400 e, and a diesel 300 de variant; these combustion engines are paired with a 134bhp electric motor. 300 e and 400 e petrol models have a combined output of 313bhp and 381bhp respectively, with the diesel plug-in hybrid 300 de capable of up to 335bhp. Both petrol and diesel PHEV models will manage up to 81 miles on electricity alone.
An 11kW AC charger comes as standard on the GLC Coupe, but customers will also be able to spec a faster 60kW DC charger which can charge the 31.2kWh battery in around 30 minutes.
Interior and equipment
The cabin will use the latest version of Mercedes’ infotainment system MBUX, which appears on the GLC as well as previous new models from the German maker - including the C-Class and EQE saloons. This has a central screen with all the main functions and a second screen behind the steering wheel for all the essential information you need when driving.
We expect UK cars to be offered in AMG-Line trim as the entry-level version of the GLC Coupe, coming with 18-inch alloy wheels, wireless smartphone charging and heated front seats as standard. The new Mercedes GLC Coupe is to go on sale from July 2023 with no official word on pricing yet, but we expect prices from around £50,000 to £55,000.
