Jaguar F-Pace named Auto Express Car of the Year
Car of the Year crowns a successful night for Jaguar models
The first-ever Jaguar SUV has been voted Car of the Year in the 2016 Auto Express awards. The Jaguar F-Pace also scooped the award for Best Compact SUV, while the Jaguar XE saloon was named Best Compact Executive Car for the second year running.
Steve Fowler, Editor-In-Chief of Auto Express and Carbuyer, said: “Jaguar’s first-ever SUV is a stunning achievement, ticking all the boxes for the increasing number of SUV buyers.
“It’s a fantastic-looking car that drives beautifully, like a Jaguar should, while offering space, quality and efficiency in equal measure. Everyone involved in designing and building such a clear-cut winner deserves huge congratulations.”
It was a good night for other British brands, too. The MINI Cooper took the Best Premium Small Car award, while the Ellesmere Port-built Vauxhall Astra was named Best Compact Family Car.
As the first car maker to offer a complete range of eco-friendly technologies, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric models – as well as the UK’s first commercially available hydrogen fuel-cell car – Hyundai took the Technology Award.
Fowler said: “Our Technology Award has been given to the manufacturer we feel has introduced really innovative and useful technology that'll truly benefit the consumer. Hyundai is the first car maker to offer buyers a full mix of eco-friendly technologies.
“In the Hyundai Ioniq, you'll be able to choose from affordable hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions – all in a really appealing package. And, of course, Hyundai was the first manufacturer to offer UK buyers a fuel-cell vehicle in the ix35.”
