New Jaguar GT teased: upcoming EV looks like no Jag that’s come before

Jaguar’s EV revolution will begin with new four-door GT car, due to appear in 2025

  • New electric four-door GT car
  • First new Jaguar as part of ‘Reimagine’ campaign
  • Design Vision Concept set for December 3rd reveal

There’s an all-new electric Jaguar in the works, and this is our first glimpse of it in the metal. Well, sort of – the picture shows part of the new Design Vision Concept, which will set the design direction for future Jaguars as the brand begins a comprehensive electric transformation.

From what we can see so far, the new GT represents a major design departure for Jaguar. The sharp creases and flat surfaces couldn’t look any more different to the curvaceous lines of the Jaguar XF and Jaguar F-Type. “Exuberant modernism” is the phrase that Jaguar has coined for the new look, and it’s said to “respect the past and inspire what’s to come”. We’ll see more of the Design Vision Concept when it’s revealed in full on December 3rd.

The keen eyed among you will spot that the concept car doesn’t have a rear window, much like the Polestar 4 EV. Instead, there’s a flat panel with a pair of horizontal stripes – a motif that’s replicated across the entire rear of the car. In typical concept car fashion, there are no side view mirrors either, but a handful of spy shots reveal that these should appear on the production model.

There’s definitely more zebra than jaguar going on in those spy shots, but the camouflaged test mule does reveal a few more clues about the upcoming electric car, even if we can’t make out its final form.

First things first, the new Jaguar appears to be a four-door coupe, which would be a first for the brand. Jaguar built its reputation with the likes of the XK, E-Type and XJS, so coupes are very much in its DNA, but the addition of an extra set of doors could provide the practicality needed to rival the Porsche Taycan.

From the camouflaged pictures – provided by Jaguar themselves, by the way – we can make out the classic ‘grand tourer’ proportions of the new EV. There’s a giant bonnet stretching out ahead of the driver, while the roofline swoops backwards to meet the rear decklid in a smooth arc. Don’t be fooled by that big square front grille – that’s just there to disguise the fact that this is an EV.

We don’t know much about what lies under the skin of the new Jaguar yet. It’s been confirmed to use an entirely new platform dedicated for EVs, but that’s about it. Jaguar’s first and only EV to date, the I-Pace, shared parts with the brand’s other combustion models, so the new GT represents a different approach. But that’s to be expected, given that Jaguar has announced plans to transition to a fully-electric luxury brand over the next few years.

The new GT will spearhead this revolution, arriving in 2025 with a price tag in the region of £130,000. It will be built in the UK at its Solihull plant, along with future electric models from Jaguar and Land Rover.

What’s next for Jaguar?

Things have been a bit quiet for Jaguar in recent years. Its last all-new model to hit the market was the I-Pace back in 2018, which is ancient history in today’s fast-moving world of hybrid and electric cars. As of late 2024, you can’t even place an order for a new Jag’ – dealers are shifting the last of their remaining stock, and then that’ll be curtains for the XE, XF, F-Pace, E-Pace, I-Pace and F-Type.

So what’s next? Well, this new electric GT car looks to be the first step in a new direction for Jaguar – a fully-electric direction. Jaguar Land Rover, JLR for short, revealed its ‘Reimagine’ strategy last year, focusing on a transition to electric power and a return to the luxury market. The GT car will lead the charge for a whole new era of electric Jags, arriving with a price tag to elevate it above brands like BMW, Mercedes and Audi.
