Honda 0 Series revealed: saloon and SUV kick off new EV era for Honda

Honda has unveiled its new 0 Series range of EVs at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas

  • New Honda 0 Series EVs unveiled at CES
  • Electric SUV and Saloon coming in 2026
  • New Asimo OS operating system for new EVs

Honda has pulled the covers off its pair of new 0 Series electric cars, revealing its next big leap in the EV market. The 0 Saloon and SUV, while still in prototype form, are set to launch in 2026, marking the start of a new era of electric Hondas.

Honda has chosen to reveal the pair at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, hinting at the tech-focused approach of the new models. While both the saloon and SUV may look like the stuff of science fiction, Honda’s decision to refer to them as ‘prototypes’ and not ‘concept cars’ gives us a strong indication that they’re almost ready for production.

The two 0 Series cars shown off at CES are the first to adopt Honda’s new design philosophy. “Thin, light, wise” is the mantra for this EV line-up, which will eventually grow to seven new models as part of a comprehensive Honda 0 Series range.

What are the Honda 0 SUV and 0 Saloon?

The first of the new 0 Series EVs to go on sale will be the 0 SUV. The styling is all-new for Honda, with sleek, futuristic bodywork and mid-size SUV proportions. Using its new “thin, wise, light” approach, Honda claims it’s been able to maximise visibility and make the cabin as spacious as possible. The car is scheduled to launch in North America initially, in the first half of 2026, with Europe and Japan getting their cars shortly afterwards.

Following the SUV later in 2026 will be the 0 Saloon. Described as the flagship of the range, it sports a much more dramatic look than the SUV, with a low nose that stretches to the rear of the car in a single arc. It’s a clear evolution of Honda’s saloon concept car shown off at CES last year, but some of the more fanciful elements have been toned down for this prototype model.

It features a traditional pair of flush headlights up front, while the gullwing doors of the concept have been swapped for an ordinary side-hinged four-door layout. Still, that giant rear overhang, unusual tail-light arrangement and massive diffuser all help to make the saloon stand out as a radical EV unlike anything else currently on sale.

Inside, both the 0 Saloon and 0 SUV appear to share the same dashboard arrangement, with a bank of three large displays, plus two smaller screens at either end for the digital side mirrors. It’s not all that dissimilar to the Honda e – the brand’s first mainstream electric car – which used a digital dashboard with cameras in place of mirrors. Here, though, the 0 Series models use a yoke-style steering wheel to help improve visibility of the driver’s display, while a giant panoramic sunroof brings extra light into the cabin.

We don’t know much in the way of tech specs, but Honda has previously said that the new models will use a 400V electric architecture with battery sizes of 80kWh for the “medium” battery and “over 100kWh” for the larger pack. More than 300 miles of range was quoted for the medium battery and the larger battery will have a “much higher” range.

All of the future Honda 0 Series cars will be sold in Europe and use the “thin, light, wise” ideology in their design. “Thin” refers to the slimline battery for these cars and “light” applies to the aluminium body frame that Honda says reduces each model’s overall weight by 100kg. A range of new technology is covered by the “wise” part of the philosophy and will include 3D gyroscope stabilisation inspired by Honda’s Asimo robot to improve the cars’ handling and regenerative braking.

What about the new Asimo OS?

The 3D gyroscope isn’t the only nod towards Asimo. The now-retired humanoid robot has lent its name to Honda’s new operating system. It will be responsible for managing not just the infotainment system in the car, but also the driving assistance features and automated driving tech in one integrated software package.

Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe told us: “As we move from the early stage to the widespread adoption stage, the time has come to invest resources in our EV strategy. It's not like we don't have the technology to produce EVs, so we want to compete globally in the future market. Honda 0 Series is a lifeline to the future.”
