Detroit Motor Show 2013 round-up

The recent Detroit Motor Show can be a little confusing for UK car buyers, because there are so many new cars on show and a lot of them won’t ever be on sale here in the UK. To make things easier, CarBuyer.co.uk has distilled all of the UK-relevant releases into one handy round-up, so you know exactly what’s coming - and when.

First up is the Mercedes CLA. It’s essentially a longer, more stylish saloon version of the A-Class hatchback and is due on sale here in March, costing around £22,000. The engine line-up is borrowed from the A-Class and includes a 168bhp diesel that is also capable of 62.8mpg. Along with the premium look and interior comes some top-line technology, including an auto-braking system that can prevent collisions at speeds from four to 124mph. Next up are the all-new Lexus IS and Infiniti Q50 models. Both of these luxury saloons will be hoping to take on the best this class has to offer, like the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4. The Lexus is hoping to win sales through its stunning design and ultra-frugal hybrid model, which is currently promising CO2 emissions below 100g/km without compromising acceleration. The Infiniti, meanwhile, offers elegant styling, a focus on performance and handling, and pioneering technology like dual touchscreens in the centre console. Honda unveiled its Urban SUV concept car at the show, which will become a new compact SUV model to rival the Nissan Juke. The production car – which doesn’t yet have a name – will be on sale in 2014 and will be the same beneath the skin as the next-generation Honda Jazz supermini. The BMW 4 Series Coupe concept also previews a production car that will be on UK roads in 2014. Where two-door versions of the 3 Series had previously been named as 3 Series Coupe and Convertible, the new-generation models, due early in 2014, will wear the 4 Series badge and will get a few bespoke styling cues. There were two very different high-performance models at Detroit: the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and the Audi RS7. The Audi arrives in the UK this summer, offering a practical, spacious and comfortable interior with blistering acceleration for around £84,000.
