Volkswagen Golf GTD prices announced
Prices and specs have been announced for the new VW Golf GTD.
The Mk7 Volkswagen Golf has a new family member – the GTD diesel hot hatchback – and it’s faster and more frugal than ever before.
It’s available to order now and costs from £25,285 on the road – £560 less than its petrol-powered counterpart, the VW Golf GTI.
It gets a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine that can produce 181bhp. However, the important figure is the increase in torque – which jumps from 350Nm to 380Nm at 1,750rpm. This gives the new Golf GTD more power at lower revs, making it more responsive in any gear and at any speed. Acceleration from 0-62mph takes 7.5 seconds, while top speed is 142mph.
Given the performance statistics, the GTD’s economy and emissions figures are impressive, too. Fitted with the six-speed manual gearbox, the GTD will do 67.3mpg and emit only 109g/km of CO2. The optional DSG twin-clutch automatic gearbox reduces fuel economy to 62.8mpg and raises CO2 emissions to 119g/km.
Standard equipment is generous, with all GTD cars getting LED rear lights, bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights. Chrome exhausts, 18-inch alloy wheels and a large roof spoiler are also included. Inside, it gets GTI-style tartan seats, a sports steering wheel and GTD-specific detailing. Dual zone-climate control, touchscreen DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity are also standard.
The VW Golf GTD is available to order now with prices starting at £25,285 for the three-door with a manual gearbox. The three-door DSG automatic starts at £26,700 while the five-door commands a £655 premium across the range.
