Volkswagen has announced a new version of its popular Passat and Passat estate, called the Highline.
It replaces the bestselling SE and adds touchscreen sat-nav, front and rear parking sensors, climate control and 17-inch Sao Paolo alloy wheels. It also includes cruise control, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, an electrically adjustable drivers seat and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Volkswagen says the extra kit is worth £1,650, but is charging a premium of just £500.
All this comes in addition to the Passat’s already generous specification, which includes DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and a special Driver Alert System that monitors the driver for signs of fatigue.
VW will continue to offer a series of cost options for the Passat Highline, including a clever park-assist system for £195, which works in conjunction with the car’s parking sensors to self-park in spaces parallel or perpendicular to the road.
The Passat Highline is available now, and starts at £20,970 for the 1.4-litre TSI with a six-speed manual gearbox. The top-of-the-range 2.0-litre TDI with six-speed DSG gearbox starts at £24,645. The Passat Highline estate commands a premium of around £1,400 over its saloon stablemate.
