Porsche prides itself on its engineering prowess and there’s no doubting that the 718 is a quality product that’s been built to very high standards. It’s worth bearing in mind that the two engines and many of the car's other systems were completely new when the car was launched and haven’t yet proven their reliability.

Porsche 718 Boxster reliability

It’s tricky to make a full judgement on the 718 Boxster’s reliability as it has yet to feature in our Driver Power owner satisfaction survey. However, Porsche’s engineering prowess is world renowned and it feels particularly well built. Make no mistake, this is a very high-quality machine.

Safety

Euro NCAP doesn’t generally crash-test low-volume cars like the Boxster, so we can’t make a final judgement about how well it’s going to behave in a collision. However, Porsche doesn’t skimp on standard safety equipment, and the Porsche Macan and Cayenne SUVs both scored the maximum five stars for safety.

As you’d expect, there are anti-lock brakes, stability control and traction control, as well as tyre-pressure monitoring, rollover hoops and specially strengthened steel in the sides in case the car suffers a side impact. The windscreen surround uses specially strengthened steel to protect the occupants in case of a roll.

If you want some extra stopping power, you can specify the (very expensive) carbon ceramic brakes, while active cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and ISOFIX child-seat fixing points are all optional extras.
