Good auto gearbox, 1.6 diesel engine performs very well, plenty of headroom and ease of access, now done 16,000 miles still on first set of tyres. Only one problem that appeared within 6 weeks of delivery was water in both front footwells. SEAT dealer has not been able to fully explain the cause, and has still not completely rectified the fault, and appears reluctant to try, for this reason alone down rate my score from 5 to 2, and would not purchase another.

Only ever had two breakdowns - one caused by faulty servicing, not tightening the fuel filter and on with a split turbo hose after 140,000 miles. A few minor niggles but still on original exhaust and battery.

Three breakdowns in one week; RAC blamed DPF. dealer unsure and handed car back saying "drive it until it breaks down again". Intermittent noise from DSG "they all do that sir", apparently a known issue in the VAG group where abroad they have increased the warranty on the box by a further five years!

Overall a good car however as known problem with abs pump is not being fully recognised by seat this has dampeneed my enthusiasm for the car

It does exactly what i expected although the fuel consumption is not as good as expected. With the previous seat i used to achieve close to the expected mpg but this one i am lucky to achieve 90%.

A major fault developed in car within week of buying. Dealer repaired at own cost . Minor problem caused car to brevert to get home mode due to split hose to turbo.. Fixed at my cost at main seat dealer. Car is great when it's running but these two faults have taken the gloss out of owning this car.

Very good overall. 45mpg good but is better on newer models. Handling, comfort and space all good or better. Build quality good but some road noise - needs more insulation/extra door seals. Very good accessories as standard. Had seat ibiza 1.9 tdi before (60mpg) - will stick with seat for value/economy/quality/reliability/general driveability, but could be tempted by other vw group cars.

Great MPV that's superbly equipped and drives like a hot hatch with tonnes of space. 4 wheel drive brilliant! Vastly under rated and don't know why they stopped selling this version here as it's still obtainable in Europe. Did have a problem with a worn propshaft housing gaiter/seal , a common VAG fault on 4x4s which was luckily covered under warranty but otherwise expensive repair. Only gripe, poor diagnosis of fault from dealer.. Took them 3 attempts when I said it was the driveline in the first place! They even suggest brand new conti tyres were misshaped! Very poor!....Also had to argue the toss with Seat to honour the warranty... Threatened them with trading standards and they soon coughed up!.. Apart from that, it's a great car and I wouldn't hesitate buying another.. Just watch out for the seat dealers! As bad as Fiat!

Very good cross over vehicle, plenty of headroom (good for me as i'm 6ft 7in tall), good use of interior space with the 60/40 split & sliding rear seats, individual looks but with the security knowing it is based on a vw tiguan / golf and has the same engine as a golf gtd. Fuel economy an issue now though with the ever increasing fuel costs. Fuel economy of par with equivalent cars.

As a car, it's ok+. One minus issue - but a big one. Disappointed that the turbo packed up at 55k miles. It should have lasted much longer and it was a very expensive repair#. This is the only thing that puts me off buying another seat. #discussed with seat (online) - seems they couldn't have cared less!

One of the best cars I've had. It's got a nice long wheel base which makes for comfortable motorway cruising. Very reliable in all weathers. A tad noisy at 70+, but very smooth for a diesel.

This car is smooth, spacious and has everything you need from a sat nav, Bluetooth, DAB radio, arm rest, multiple storage compartments, adjustable rear seats. The boot is also quite big and can be used as two separate levels however, I don't think the boot is as wide as I initially expected. All in all, it's a great car and plan to keep it for a very long time.

After always having had other manufacturer's cars, generally from an expensive range, i find my seat altea just about the best quality car for price i have ever purchased. It is comfortable, fast and economical and above all very roomy.Its Driving experience is excellent. The fully adjustable front seats and all round vision is outstanding. The car handles well and is effortless to drive on long journeys.

The car was very good on the whole, ride was a bit on the firm side. Practicality excellent with lots of hidden storage. Economy not too bad. Reliability good until abs unit failed 5 weeks out of warranty. Seat refused any contribution although it seems a well known fault. So car good, seat bad

Initially this car was good, although showed some rust at bonnet hinge, was given extended paint corrosion warranty, I had this serviced as per service schedule, and 5 months after warranty expired the dual mass fly wheel gave up, reading forums seems a common problem with this year and gearbox, Seat and dealer weren't interested in helping, then just under 4 years the air con compressor gave up the ghost too, which again seems to be a problem with this engine combination but again Seat couldn't give a care. They are happy to take your money but that's about it. This will be my last Seat as I did have an Ibiza which was a good car but the dielsel 1.9 configuration shows unrealiability.

A good car let down by expensive repair bills, ie esp warning light came on and could only be repaired by an expensive replacement unit in the bracking system. Car had done less than 47000 miles and no help with cost from seat.

The car is excellent overall. We really enjoy driving it as it is quite fun and sporty. The seats are very comfortable and we can fit 3 children in the back with no problem (two boosters, one without). Our only complaint would be is that it is a bit noisy but we have got use to it now. The styling is good and better looking than the golf plus in our opinion. We have recommended the car to many other people.

I find the car comfortable, nice to drive, practical and quite good looking. The engine is torquey with adequate performance and quite economical. I am pleased wth the car.

Having previously driven a vw touran under contract, i was interested in the altea xl as i'd decide to purchase, rather than lease a car. While not as practical as the touran, it is equally as comfortable, reliable and pleasant to drive. An added bonus is slightly better fuel economy. The car strikes me as being solid, well built and reasonably well equiped. The inclusion of an aux in socket for the cd radio enable me to connect my sat nav and hear the voice through the cars speakers.

My altea is great for what i need. It has room for carrying people at work and is good for older parents to get in and out of being higher up. It has good performance and high mpg, 50 -55. It also has enough room for the dog, tent and skiing equipment when needed. The main dealer is also first class and always gives good service at a resonable price.
