New Subaru Trailseeker revealed as rugged electric SUV with 375bhp

Subaru’s second EV is bigger, quicker and built for real-world adventure – UK launch expected in 2026

Subaru has pulled the covers off its all-new 2026 Trailseeker – the brand’s second electric SUV and its most adventure-ready EV to date. Making its global debut at the New York International Auto Show, the Trailseeker combines tough looks with twin-motor performance and genuine go-anywhere ability, according to the Japanese brand.

Although a UK launch is yet to be confirmed, the Trailseeker’s size, specs and strong off-road focus make it a likely candidate to sit above the Solterra and expand Subaru’s EV range.

Performance and practicality with a rugged edge

Under the skin, the Trailseeker uses a twin-motor all-wheel drive system with a combined output of around 375bhp. That’s enough to do the 0-62mph sprint in roughly 4.4 seconds – quicker than most family SUVs – and give it a towing capacity of up to 1,588kg. Like the Solterra, it uses Subaru’s 75kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering over 260 miles of range according to US testing – expect closer to 300 miles on the European WLTP test. Charging from 10 to 80% should take around 35 minutes when the battery is pre-conditioned before arriving at a fast charger.

Subaru Trailseeker interior

Built with adventure in mind, the Trailseeker includes Subaru’s X-Mode system with selectable Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings, plus Grip Control and Downhill Assist. Ground clearance stands at 211mm, which is quite lofty for an EV and should help when traversing muddy tracks.

Subaru also promises a refined drive on tarmac, with clever sensors adjusting power distribution to keep the car stable and composed in all conditions.

Bigger, roomier and more practical than the Solterra

At over 150mm longer and nearly 25mm taller than the Solterra, the Trailseeker is designed to offer more room inside – particularly in the boot. The taller roofline and expanded cargo area give it a more traditional SUV silhouette, and there’s a handy power outlet in the rear to power camping gear or tools.

All versions come with raised roof rails as standard, making it easier to carry bikes, kayaks or roof boxes. Subaru’s latest EV lighting signature – including a new illuminated badge and slick headlight design – gives it a modern look, complemented by two-tone paint options and either 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels.

New touchscreen and advanced driver tech inside

Inside, the Trailseeker features Subaru’s largest-ever infotainment screen – a 14-inch central touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that’s shared with the facelifted Subaru Solterra. There are two wireless phone chargers up front, plus fast USB-C ports for rear passengers. The cabin has a flat floor and wide centre console, with metallic trim details and a bright, open feel.

As you’d expect, Subaru’s full EyeSight driver assistance package is standard. That includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, 360-degree cameras, and even Emergency Stop Assist for added safety in busy traffic.

When can I buy a Trailseeker in the UK and how much will it cost?

Subaru hasn’t confirmed UK pricing or launch dates, but the Trailseeker is expected to go on sale in North America in early 2026. Given the growing demand for rugged electric SUVs and Subaru’s recent EV push, a UK launch seems likely to follow not long after.

With more performance, more space and true all-weather ability, the Trailseeker could be just the thing to tempt outdoor-loving drivers into an EV, but considering the smaller Solterra is priced from around £50,000, the Trailseeker won’t be cheap.
