Subaru BRZ owner reviews

"The Subaru BRZ is a superb driver’s car. The rear-wheel-drive set-up gives it great handling and it’s affordable, too"

Great fun with brilliant handling. Loves the driving position and all the controls feel well thought out and easy to use. Looks smart and goes fairly quick when pushed.

Purchased when 1 year old and to date it has been faultless. There are not many decent main dealers local to me any more so I rely on a specialist to maintain it. Apart from two annual services which I have purchased quality oils and Subaru filters it has not required any additional maintenance. The BRZ along with its ‘twin’ the Toyota GT86 has a cult following so specialist garages and aftermarket parts are numerous. The seats are supportive and surprisingly comfy on long journeys and the driving position is perfect. The little bulges in the front wings as intended work superbly for positioning the car. I have owned a few Subarus to date and still own another as well as the BRZ so I am well aware that the interiors will not set pulses racing in the glamorous stakes. It is however practical and functional and all controls sensibly placed. The head unit is pretty old school and some of the switchgear hasn’t changed in over ten years, however, unlike the irritating electrical gremlins that plague a large percentage of glitzy modern machinery it won’t need a re-boot in its first year! I’m not sure the BRZ would work for me as a daily driver but ran alongside my practical AWD SUV it ticks all the right boxes. I test drove quite a few alternatives before choosing the BRZ, many of which were far more expensive, much faster and some far more practical but, none of them gave me the same sense of excitement. It’s not a fast car by any means and the engine needs to be worked hard to ensure steady progress. This is because it has a well known torque dip right in the middle of the rev range. This is not ideal as this chassis will and is capable of much more power. The dip is reported to be as a result of emission regulations but it can be ‘ironed out’ with an aftermarket manifold and re-map. It’s not a cheap affair but it completely eradicates the dip, massively improves the driving experience and even slightly improves the power output to boot. There are also supercharger options if you fancy throwing another fiver or six grand at it. The Michelin Primacy tyres it comes with are a deliberate attempt to make the car more playful at lower speeds. In all honesty they are not great in the wet and a decent set of sport tyres will reap rewards. To improve on an already fantastic chassis I have added Ohlins coilovers, slightly wider wheels, fitted Michelin PS4 tyres, upgraded the disc to DBA and the pads to Hawks. I have also had the n/a tuning upgrade that fixes the torque dip and includes a long tube manifold, air filter and re-map As is it is a wonderful weekend blast and holds its own on occasional track day events

Absolutely love this car, certainly looks the business when just been valeted in pearl white finish - need to work the engine to growl and it brings fun back into roundabouts and corners. Good boot space for all the girly shopping bags as long as only two people in total go on the shopping trip - the back seats aren't designed for being used but they have the great benefit of bringing the insurance costs down as this takes the BRZ from a 2 seater sports coupe to a four seater vehicle for insurance purposes. Had no issues with the BRZ at all from delivery. Just about to have my first year's annual service - very expensive on servicing, it is cheaper to have an SLK/330 serviced than the BRZ! But having said that I wouldn't change it much to my mother's disgust - she has trouble getting in and out of it....... shame that hey!! :-)

Unlike my previous Car from VAG, none of the usual, typical, irritating delivery issues. 4500 miles, no delivery issues.
