Hot car deal: Toyota bZ4X for £278 a month is a stellar deal for a spacious EV

Our hot deal for January 11th is Toyota’s debut electric car: the quirky yet quality bZ4X

Toyota bZ4X tracking

While Toyota is heralded as the pioneer of hybrid motoring, it took a while for the first fully electric model to appear from the Japanese brand. We reckon it was worth the wait, as the Toyota bZ4X is a surefooted, solidly-built family EV that provides a worthy rival to the popular electric offerings from South Korea and the US.

So if you’re ready to make the switch to EV power for your next family car, this Toyota bZ4X lease deal could be exactly what you’re after.

What’s so good about this Toyota bZ4X deal?

The sub-£300 monthly price is the headline figure for this Toyota bZ4X deal, a temptingly low figure for a car that costs over £45k to buy outright. We’ve had a scout around online, and most lease deals for the bZ4X with similar terms tend to hover around the £450 per month mark, making today’s deal appear even more attractive.

The deal is offered through selectcarleasing.co.uk, and requires a fairly chunky initial payment of £2,506, but this can be reduced if you’re willing to pay more each month. Speaking of which, that £278 per month price is more in line with what we’ve seen for electric cars such as the MG4 or BYD Dolphin – both good cars in their own right, but neither offering the space or build-quality of the Toyota.

There’s a mileage limit of 5,000 per year if you want the ultra-low £278 monthly price, but doubling to 10,000 miles will increase the fee to £329, still a respectable figure that undercuts many other bZ4X deals we’ve found.

The model offered through this deal is the mid-spec Motion trim, which packs a few extra interior goodies, such as a panoramic sunroof and privacy glass.

What’s so good about the Toyota bZ4X?

There’s lots to like about the Toyota bZ4X, from its unique styling to the spacious and well-appointed interior. It uses a 71kWh battery that provides enough juice for up to 321 miles of range, on par with the majority of its rivals. There’s 150kW rapid-charging capability too – not quite as quick as the Hyundai Ioniq 5’s peak charging speed, but still good for a 10 to 80% charge in 32 minutes.

Moving inside the bZ4X, you’re greeted with a handsome interior with high-quality materials dotted throughout. There’s the trademark electric car smoothness, complemented by low levels of road noise, even on the motorway. Rivals may beat the bZ4X for boot space, but that’s the price you pay for a sloping rear roof line.

We were most surprised by how the bZ4X drives, with nicely weighted steering and good body control through the corners. It’s not rapid, with only 201bhp to play with, but the result is an EV that is more enjoyable to drive than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volkswagen ID.4, while also riding better over rough roads.

Anything else I need to know about this deal?

This is a lease deal, often referred to as Personal Contract Hire (PCH), so there’s no option to buy the car at the end of the contract. You are effectively renting the car for the two-year term, but the deal is very flexible so you can adjust the term length, mileage limit and initial payment size to suit. Once the deal is over, you just hand the keys back and start looking for your next car.

Our hot deals are carefully selected by our car buying experts and they are all subject to change. Always read the full terms and conditions and make sure the car and the deal suits your needs before proceeding.
