Tried them all - Mercedes GL, Discovery 4, Ford S-Max (7 seats). What do I expect from a car? Reliability, to be fit for a family (2+4). The car needs to start in the morning and shouldn't break. It should be large, comfy and robust. It has to withstand 4 kids, snow, rain and occasional off-road trips into the wild. Merc GL? Transmission died after 24000 miles. Costed 14,000 to replace. Discovery 4 disintegrated after 3 years (and needed service every quarter). S-Max? Just as "good" (and will not take you off asphalt). Landcruiser is the best car I owned. Large? Yes. Thirsty? Just as Disco. Expensive to run? No - nothing ever goes wrong. You just put petrol in and service it once every 15-20k miles for 200-300 pounds. That's it. Generic tyres lasted 55,000 miles. Snow? Rain? Mud? Motorway? Drives and feels exactly the same. No idea why people write that the car is not suitable for british roads... Complains about too many buttons? Well - they are large and easy to press when wearing gloves. AC heats the car in minutes. Cold morning? There is a switch for rapid cabin heating. Parking? Easier than you think (especially with 360 cameras and 5.8m turning radius). There is a reason why this car is a worldwide best seller. Go get one now...

This car has not set a foot wrong in two years. Even when driving in minus 30c in Sweden, it starts up with no fuss. You can travel 600 miles on a tank of fuel and get out with no back pain. Toyota are upgrading me to a 2018 model. They offered me such a good deal I could not refuse. This will me my 3rd landcruiser over the last 13 years. I've never broken down once in all that time. I have driven 'Chelsea tractors', and other road users call you names. But in this no one is interested. It's very understated for an SUV

I'm based in the Baltics, doing 5,000 miles on rough gravel roads and good 10,000miles a year on asphalt, this is my second Land Cruiser over 15 years from new. Never been let down and winters here hit -33 degrees celsius. In addition to normal servicing only repair has been shock absorbers which is to be expected. Fuel economy is about 25 mpg – not great compared to rivals. There's loads of room inside, it may not be the most sophisticated but goes and goes. Personally I'm not keen on the latest model externally, itlooks to have put on weight!

I should add 'multiple use' as a more accurate reflection of reality. Key factors: Lousy fuel economy much lower than Toyota claim. Unreliable, broke down three times in 45k miles. Comfortable and big.

I've driven 100,000 miles in 4 years. I've had to fit one set of new tyres and some new windscreen wipers. Apart from that, fuel it up, point it in the right direction and it'll get you there. It's comfortable, quiet and safe. I've driven 700 miles in a day, pain-free. I absolutely adore this vehicle.

Superb all round vehicle, and a wonderful family car. Supremely comfortable (and easy) to drive over short and long distances (and more challenging terrain); hugely spacious in all three rows (especially when compared to the Discovery); very high spec (with just about every gadget and convenience one could ask for); surprisingly easy to park (even in tight spaces at Tesco); cheap to service, tax and insure; utterly reliable. Only downside is fuel consumption (24 in town; 29 on motorways), but well worth it, as it excels in so many other ways. Understated elegance, practicality and honesty; doesn't have the prestige of a Discovery or GL but - unless you're a badge snob - its a far better vehicle in almost every way. We love our Cruiser!!

Nothing has failed, not even a bulb. The sump pan was replaced at 71,000 miles as corrosion threatened its integrity.

I have kept my fuel economy records from new. It started around 38 and is now below 34 from all uses. It has been totally reliable which was the main reason for my choice of Toyota. I use it around farms, to and from the office and occasional long trips. Comfort is great and as long as you don't try and use it like a sports car it has good road holding. I am up to just under 60,000 miles and still on the original Bridgestone Duellers which have at least 1 more winter in them. Dealer servicing is not cheap but no more expensive than the competition. Buy the best one that you can and keep it as long as possible. That way you get the best from your investment. Buy the best synthetic oils and lubricants. Many LCs have done 300,000 or even 400,000 miles on the same engine. Owners buy the same again and again. They would not have the same confidence to buy anything else.

This is my second Land Cruiser and I have to say I am a complete convert. I have had many cars over the years and never the same brand twice let alone the same model. I have just ordered my third Land Cruiser simply because the dealership offered me such an amazing deal on a new ex demo that it would be foolish to turn it down. Never had any problems, I have a service plan so it just goes in when it needs to and never needs anything extra doing to it. I think they are a well kept secret and whenever I see another owner pass by I think to myself that we are in some kind of exclusive club. Residual values on these cars is amazing too. I have seen loads of rival brands broken down at the side of the road but never a Land Cruiser. It feels high up and safe, I didn’t buy it for its fuel economy but I just love to drive it. Parking is a breeze. My local dealership in Grantham are amazing and could not do more to help. Very happy owner, well done Toyota

Very good for what we require - farm business - it can carry people comfortably but also straw, fence posts, antqiues, livestock etc Excellent in the snow and good pulling power and so comfortable!

Landcruisers are invincible. This is my 4th. I also have kept my last one which has 192,000 miles on it with no problems. They are reliable and cheap( for their catagory) to run. They are twice the car of their main rival land rover.

Huge car, goes well for its size, heavy on brakes - again due to its size but it is a good allround car. Absolutely brilliant in snow - it will not get stuck and has pulled out a renge rover, discovery and merc ml. Windscreen leaked and wrecked a few electrics but other than servicing the car nothing else has needed replacing (touch wood). Would recommend.
