Bargain Volkswagen Golf R: Hot hatch lease deal
Our hot car deal for 26 April is a performance hero; the Volkswagen Golf R for £354 a month
If you’re a Volkswagen Golf GTI fan that’s yearning for a bit more oomph, then the Golf R will be just the thing. Don’t be fooled by its subtle ‘Q-car looks,’ the R is a furious beast with plenty of power and 4Motion all-wheel drive to help boost your confidence on the road – particularly in more adverse weather conditions. Handling is a real plus point, and you’ll find that the Golf R is capable of supercar-baiting performance across a twisty B-road, while also being talented enough to fulfil a more practical role as relaxed, everyday family transport.
What’s so good about this Volkswagen Golf R deal?
This two-year deal from Nationwide Vehicle Contracts is for a pre-facelift Golf R model, and lets you cover up to 5,000 miles a year with an initial payment of £4,426.20, followed by monthly payments of £353.85. If you need to increase the agreed mileage limit you will need to loosen the purse strings a little; upping the deal to include 10,000 miles per annum means you’ll pay an extra £38.93 per month, with around £500 added to the initial deposit amount.
As a top-of-the-range hot hatch, the Golf R includes a decent level of standard equipment, including 18-inch alloys, LED Matrix headlights, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, front sports seats, three-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charging, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a 10-inch infotainment touch screen with integrated sat-nav.
The Golf R is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing a substantial 316bhp model via a seven-speed DSG auto ‘box. 0-62mph is dispatched in 4.7 seconds, while average fuel economy should hover around 35mpg.
What’s so good about the Volkswagen Golf R?
Up against the likes of the Audi S3, Cupra Leon and Mercedes-AMG A 35, the VW Golf R remains a coveted hot hatch with a supreme skill set. Yes, it suffers from having to use the standard Golf’s infotainment system which has been a bugbear of the Mk8 car, but as an overall package, the R is a deeply impressive performance hatch.

Anything else I need to know about this deal?
This is a lease deal, often referred to as Personal Contract Hire (PCH), so there’s no option to buy the car at the end of the contract. You are effectively renting the car for the two-year term, but the deal is very flexible so you can adjust the term length, mileage limit and initial payment size to suit, but only at the outset. Once the deal is over, you just hand the keys back and start looking for your next car.
Our hot deals are carefully selected by our car buying experts and they are all subject to change. Always read the full terms and conditions and make sure the car and the deal suits your needs before proceeding.
