Volvo S80 owner reviews

“The Volvo S80 is a well-equipped and extremely comfortable saloon car, but it’s due to be replaced soon and rivals are far better to drive.”

Been driving through Europe to Italy last three years in Mercedes, Audi and finally Volvo S80, bringing a family of four persons along. The Volvo is by far the FIRST pick for ALL of us. The Volvo is so supportive to the driver and comfortable in driving long distances it completely outperforms the two rivals. And I'm talking about 10 hours of driving per day. We now have two cars, of which one is a Mercedes. But, all our future cars will be Volvos. The Volvos are also well built to withstand corrosion for many years while Mercedes are hit hard by corrosion.

Best seats/interior styling of any car in its class great safety features do not compromise any other aspect of the car needs more power (or a chip uprate) adequate fuel economy and not expensive to insure very relaxing car to drive.

Fantastic saloon car, and great value on second hand. Shame it depreciates like a rock in a pond, but other than the price to run it, there's not much I would change. Perhaps it's not as sporty as a BMW, but it's not meant for track. It'll easily do motorway miles, and keep you fresh at the end of a long journey. There's plenty of space inside to pack a family of 5 and their suitcases, though in the diesel version, the power is very much there with it's 0-60 within 6 seconds, but isn't as immediate as I hoped. A lot of anticipation is needed negotiating roundabouts, overtaking and coming out of junctions. A lot of thought has gone into the aesthetics and it feels like a premium car whenever I drive it. The steering is responsive, ride height is in a good position, and on UK bumpy roads, it does a good job in absorbing the bumps.

I bought this car back in 2009 to replace my awfully unreliable Renault Laguna estate. I wanted a large executive car with lots of power. There was a 4.4 litre v8 awd version, which is the car I was going to buy, but due to that car having been sold before I got it, I ended up with the 2.4 litre diesel. The Renault Laguna was actually my wife's car, and I had previously owned a Jaguar XKR. So I wasn't used to the performance of this car. It was awfully slow and didn't sound very nice. I thought that at least I would get a better mileage from a smaller more economical engine. But on the motorway I only averaged 23 mpg, awful! The car is comfortable and reliable, I have now covered 120,000 miles and everything still works. I will be selling this car in exchange for a Lexus GS450h later this year, hoping to get more performance and economy.

This is a great car for motorway driving and seats are fantastic..even after 5 hours driving i have no discomfort (apart from old age). Only niggle was it was missing a sixth gear to get engine revs down & fuel economy up on the motorway.

Very comfortable, easy to drive, and also a stand-out among executive cars. Only drawback is a typical 32mpg (averaging around 30mph), which is poor for a diesel and has not markedly improved with age.
